Purpose Of Role
To install, inspect, survey and rectify access cover systems manufactured by Steelway Brickhouse.
The role combines practical installation work, customer-facing technical support and site surveying.
The successful candidate will remove and replace existing access covers, prepare surrounding civils, ensure high-quality installations, investigate customer-reported issues and progressively develop into a lead site surveyor for future projects.
This position plays a key role in ensuring Steelway Brickhouse delivers exceptional quality, safety and customer satisfaction from initial site assessment through to final installation and aftercare.
Location
Field-based with travel throughout the UK & on site at Steelway Brickhouse when not travelling
Key Responsibilities
- At all times comply with the RAMS provided
- Remove existing access covers and frames.
- Prepare chambers and surrounding areas for installation.
- Carry out minor civils works associated with installations, including: breaking out existing concrete where required, excavation of small localised areas, preparing foundations and bedding materials, concrete and mortar finishing works, reinstatement of surrounding surfaces
- Install Steelway Brickhouse units in accordance with drawings and specifications.
- Carry out mechanical fitting and adjustment activities to ensure correct alignment and operation.
- Ensure completed installations achieve a high-quality aesthetic finish.
- Complete all relevant installation records, photographs and documentation.
- Visit customer sites to investigate quality concerns, operational issues and installation-related queries.
- Identify root causes of issues and agree practical solutions with customers.
- Carry out basic repair, modification and rectification work where required.
- Liaise with internal engineering and production teams regarding recurring issues or product improvements.
- Act as a positive ambassador for Steelway Brickhouse while on customer sites.
Site Surveying
- Working alongside the current Sales Engineer, develop the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake independent site surveys.
• Responsibilities will include
- Conducting pre-installation surveys.
- Measuring chamber openings and surrounding infrastructure.
- Assessing site access requirements.
- Identifying installation risks and challenges.
- Recording site dimensions and relevant photographs
- Producing accurate survey information for quotation, design and manufacturing purposes.
- Identifying opportunities for improved solutions and value-added services.
- Progressively taking ownership of survey activities as experience grows.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Work safely and in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Complete risk assessments and follow site-specific safe systems of work.
- Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Ensure installations comply with relevant specifications and standards.
- Attend all required training and development activities.
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience in a practical installation, maintenance, construction or mechanical fitting environment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Experience carrying out minor civils works including concrete preparation and reinstatement.
- Good understanding of measuring and working accurately from dimensions.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home.
- Experience working within utilities, water industry, highways or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience of access cover or drainage products.
- Site surveying experience.
- CSCS card.
- Confined Space awareness.
