An established and highly respected Scottish textile manufacturer is seeking an experienced and technically capable Loom Tuner / Loom Technician to join its production team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a prestigious textile mill, maintaining and supporting a modern fleet of state-of-the-art Dornier weaving looms. The successful individual will play an important role in ensuring machinery operates reliably, efficiently and to the exacting quality standards associated with premium Scottish cloth.

The position would suit an experienced loom tuner or textile maintenance technician with strong mechanical aptitude, a methodical approach to fault-finding and a genuine appreciation for high-quality textile manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, tune and optimise Dornier weaving looms to ensure consistent performance and cloth quality.
  • Diagnose mechanical and technical faults, completing repairs efficiently to minimise production downtime.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with production schedules.
  • Set up and adjust looms for new fabric styles, yarn specifications and production requirements.
  • Monitor loom performance and make appropriate adjustments to improve efficiency and reduce weaving faults.
  • Work closely with weavers, production supervisors and the wider maintenance team to resolve technical issues.
  • Identify recurring faults and recommend practical improvements to machinery, processes and maintenance procedures.
  • Support cloth changes, warp changes and machine changeovers where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, faults and replacement parts.
  • Ensure spare parts and essential maintenance materials are properly monitored and available.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping around machinery and production areas.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to weaving colleagues where appropriate.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience as a Loom Tuner, Loom Technician, Weaving Technician or Textile Maintenance Engineer.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing modern weaving machinery.
  • Knowledge of Dornier looms would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
  • A good understanding of weaving processes, loom settings and the causes of common fabric defects.
  • Ability to interpret technical information, machinery manuals and maintenance schedules.
  • A proactive and methodical approach to preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider production team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining exceptional quality standards.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.

Additional Technical Experience

  • Experience in any of the following areas would also be beneficial:
  • Rapier weaving machinery
  • Electronic loom controls
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Electrical fault-finding
  • Warp and style changes
  • Woollen or worsted fabric production
  • Continuous improvement within a textile manufacturing environment
