Location: 375 - 401 Blenheim Road, Christchurch 8041.

About The Role

As a Service Technician, you’ll operate a fully equipped mobile testing van and work directly with customers across Canterbury and surrounding districts. This customer-facing role combines hands-on technical work with proactive relationship building to maintain Steel & Tube’s presence in the region. You’ll test, certify, repair and maintain lifting and height safety equipment, while promoting the testing programme and wider product range. You’ll plan regular customer visits using the service register, conduct on-site testing and repairs, keep lifting registers and customer data up to date, issue timely invoices and stock the van for immediate service and sales opportunities. The role includes 2–5 days of travel per month on a rotational basis (mainly scheduled maintenance), giving variety while remaining Christchurch-based. Every visit adds value through excellent service, compliance support and opportunities to grow the Chain & Rigging business as part of the wider One Company offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site testing, certification, repairs and maintenance of lifting and height safety equipment
  • Promote the mobile testing programme to existing and new customers
  • Manage customer schedules and registers to ensure regular face-to-face service and compliance
  • Identify sales opportunities and introduce the full Steel & Tube product range
  • Maintain accurate records, stock levels and issue invoices promptly
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while achieving individual targets
  • Ensure all work meets Health & Safety and quality standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical or servicing experience is an advantage, but we’re open to keen candidates from other industries
  • Top attitude – self-motivated, proactive and reliable with a willingness to learn
  • Comfortable with regular travel (2–5 days per month on rotation)
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build lasting relationships
  • Some computer literacy for data entry, registers and basic systems (training provided)
  • Good communicator who enjoys working independently and as part of a team
