Build the Digital Operating System Behind a Fast-Growing Design & Manufacturing Business.

About Steel Door Company: The Steel Door Company is a fast-growing provider of bespoke, high-end internal and external steel doors for customers looking to elevate the design and finish of their homes. We are investing heavily in technology to digitise and scale our entire customer journey, replacing manual and offline processes with a modern connected platform. This is not a maintenance role. We are building the systems that will power the next phase of growth, creating a highly automated, scalable engine across sales, configuration, operations and fulfilment.

The Opportunity: This is a greenfield opportunity to own and shape the development of Steel Door Company’s core digital systems. The initial focus is the build of a bespoke product configuration and quoting platform, but the wider vision extends far beyond that. Over time, this platform will evolve into an integrated operating system connecting:

  • Customer configuration and quoting
  • Sales and CRM workflows
  • Ordering and fulfilment
  • Internal operational tooling
  • Supplier and logistics integrations
  • Future manufacturing and production workflows

You will work closely with leadership, marketing and operations to turn ideas into working systems quickly while helping define the long-term technical direction of the business.

What You’ll Build:

Customer Configuration & Quoting Platform: Lead the design and development of a full-stack platform that enables customers to:

  • Configure bespoke steel doors through guided workflows
  • Receive real-time pricing based on rules and selections
  • Save, duplicate and share configurations
  • Submit enquiries and progress into order workflows
  • Generate structured outputs for internal systems via APIs

This platform will become central to both sales and operations.

Internal Systems & Automation: Design and build internal systems that streamline and automate operations across the business, including:

  • Product configurator
  • Quoting and pricing engine
  • Ordering and fulfilment workflows
  • Internal admin and operational tooling
  • Customer and trade account systems
  • Workflow automation and connected business systems

The goal is simple: Remove friction across the entire customer journey - from lead to delivery.

Systems Integration & AI Automation: Lead workflow automation and system integration across:

  • Shopify
  • HubSpot
  • Xero
  • Booking and payment systems
  • Suppliers and logistics partners
  • Future ERP / production systems

We are particularly interested in candidates who actively use and experiment with AI tooling and agent workflows to accelerate delivery and simplify operations. This includes experience or interest in:

  • GPT / Claude workflows
  • Copilots and AI-assisted development
  • Agent-based automation
  • AI-enabled internal tools and workflows

Technical Scope: We are open to technology choices and architectural approaches based on experience, best practice, and long-term scalability.

Frontend: Strong experience building modern web applications using contemporary frontend frameworks and component-based architectures. Experience may include:

  • React or equivalent modern frontend frameworks
  • Component-based UI architecture
  • Guided and dynamic user workflows
  • State management and complex application flows
  • Responsive, scalable and maintainable interfaces
  • Frontend architecture designed for performance and long-term evolution
Backend: Strong experience building secure, scalable backend systems and business-critical applications. Experience may include modern backend ecosystems such as:

  • Node.js / TypeScript
  • Python
  • Or equivalent backend technologies

Including experience with:

  • API and integration-led architecture
  • Business logic and workflow orchestration
  • Product, configuration and operational services
  • Rules and pricing engines
  • Authentication, permissions and secure system design
  • Scalable and maintainable backend architecture

  • AWS
  • Google Cloud

Including:

  • Hosting and infrastructure architecture
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
  • Environment and release management
  • Monitoring, observability and reliability
  • Scalability, performance and resilience planning
  • Secure production systems and operational best practice
Data & System Design: Strong understanding of scalable data modelling and business system design. Experience may include:

  • Relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Flexible or document-based storage where appropriate
  • Backend data modelling and service design
  • Rules, constraints and workflow logic
  • Dynamic pricing and business logic systems
  • Designing data structures to support complex operational workflows

What We’re Looking For: You’ll likely have:

  • Proven experience building complex full-stack applications
  • Strong backend architecture and data modelling skills
  • Experience designing systems from scratch in greenfield environments
  • Experience with APIs, integrations and workflow automation
  • Experience with product configuration, CPQ or rule-based systems
  • Comfort working across frontend, backend and cloud infrastructure
  • Pragmatic decision-making and strong product instincts
