London, White City / Full-time / Founding Engineer
We are looking for someone to detect signals from a new generation of semiconductor that has never been measured before. You will design, invent and build the electronics that drive and measure each device. The role would suit a physicist who builds their own amplifier because nothing on the market is good enough, rather than an engineer who designs radios.
Who you are
You will either hold a PhD in physics or electronic engineering, or have achieved comparable depth and independence in an industrial lab. We are looking for someone who loves data and problem solving, and checks a result in more than one way before believing it. You should feel comfortable in a small team where plans change as we learn, and be patient with measurements that take weeks to hone. You'll be someone with humour when things don't go as planned, the energy to pick it up, and celebrate with the team when it works.
Where the role goes
The first task will be to demonstrate in the labs at the Royce (Imperial, London) that you can drive the device to give a low-noise signal. You will then turn your designs and results into chip specifications, working with engineers to take it to foundry scale.
Essential (RF design and measurements)
- Experience in the design of low-noise analogue and/or RF devices
- RF measurement with a VNA or spectrum analyser
- Noise measurements
- Instrument automation/control in Python, LabVIEW or MATLAB etc.
About Us
We are a London startup, still in stealth, that engineers semiconductors to read biology. We already hold a development contract for frontier applications, and we are now building our first devices. You would be a founding engineer, and what you build in your first year will shape what the company becomes. We are based at the Royce at Imperial , White City, London.
