Position Overview
We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to join our team and play a pivotal role in scaling our engineering function while remaining hands-on in development. You’ll be responsible for shaping our engineering culture, growing a high-performing team, driving execution, and fostering innovation – all while ensuring a world-class infrastructure to power real-time business data.
You’ll be managing a team of ambitious, senior engineers with deep experience in financial technology, many of whom have built and scaled products at leading unicorns. This role is a blend of leadership and technical expertise, requiring you to set the direction, optimize for growth, and contribute directly to development.
As an early-stage startup, we pride ourselves on our ability to roll up our sleeves and build from scratch, you should be ready to get your hands dirty with coding. You will have the opportunity to lead a team of ambitious and senior engineers, coming from multiple unicorns and with large experience in financial technology.

Responsibilities
- Define the technical strategy and long-term architecture of OUR core platform in collaboration with the founding team and technical product owner.
- Manage, mentor, and guide a group of experienced engineers, while fostering a culture of continuous learning, improvement, and technical excellence.
- Build a high-performing engineering team, recognizing and coaching talent to maximize potential through example, feedback, and hands-on leadership.
- Take a pragmatic approach to software development, balancing scalability, security, and high performance for critical systems.
- Continuously monitor KPIs to assess team effectiveness and solution outcomes.
- Ensure the right tools and processes are in place for rapid issue detection and resolution of real-time production issues, including root cause analysis.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and project scope that align with product goals and business objectives.
- Proactively balance managing technical debt with the development of new features.
- Drive execution with a relentless focus on delivering value to customers, continuously challenging the status quo for efficiency and impact.
- Represent engineering in executive meetings, providing updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Champion disruptive thinking while ensuring technical decisions support the company’s long-term vision.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 3-5 years in FinTech, ideally in a leadership or management role.
- Proven track record of leading and growing high-performing engineering teams.
- 5+ years of experience owning and developing full end-to-end technology stacks, including Backend, CI/CD, Logging, Monitoring, and Alerting.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Python.
- Expertise with Google Cloud Platform (or equivalent: AWS, Azure).
- Experience in designing customer-facing REST APIs and asynchronous architectures (e.g. queues, pub/sub, lambdas, webhooks).
- Strong experience with relational database modeling (using PostgreSQL or MySQL).
- Deep understanding of software engineering best practices, including DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to quickly make critical decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proven track record of collaborating with product teams to drive business growth.
- Strong communication skills, relationship management, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Work authorization in the UK.
