Head of Compliance (SMF16 and SMF17), part-time/fractional Who we are We are starting a new financial advisory firm that’s built from the ground up to make advice accessible, modern, and trusted again. We are a team of experienced founders who have built and sold a consumer technology business before (used by millions of people in the UK and US) and are now committing to the mission of helping people make big financial decisions. We have raised Seed funding from one of the top early stage VC firms in Europe and are now in the process of getting FCA authorised and building our first products and services. We are happy to tell you much more about us, the business and our vision as part of the interview process. Who we’re looking for We are looking for an experienced compliance professional to take on the FCA SMF16 and SMF17 roles for our new Article 3 MiFID-exempt retail investment advisory firm. This role would suit someone looking for part-time and flexible work. We\'ll require 1 day per week during the authorisation process (4-6 months). Once authorised we will discuss increasing time commitment to ensure appropriate oversight as the company grows. Responsibilities during authorisation period: Fill out SMF forms (e.g. CV, skills gap assessment) as part of our FCA application Ensure our compliance policies pack is best-practice Support on answering any follow-up questions from the FCA regarding compliance Upskill the founding team by sharing your knowledge and expertise Responsibilities once authorised: Act as SMF16 and SMF17 for the business, you hold ultimate responsibility for the firm’s compliance function and oversight of its risk management framework Oversee the implementation of compliance frameworks, policies and monitoring Provide guidance to the founding team on risk and compliance implications as new products and services are developed Requirements Minimum 5 years’ compliance experience in retail financial advice or wealth management Must have experience holding the SMF16 role Experience also holding the SMF17 role is highly desirable Comfortable in a lean, early-stage environment Available on a part-time/fractional basis, with flexibility as business scales Compensation We expect a day rate will work best but are happy to discuss other arrangements. £700-£1,000/day depending on experience (we expect £800/day given the experience we\'re looking for)
