The role: Our Engineering team is exceptionally talented, with depths of experience working on some of the most innovative and complex Engineering projects across multiple industries. Due to our fast-growing customer base, we need to scale up our Engineering/Production capability to be able to keep up with the demand. We are looking for an experienced Composite Technician, a ‘trimmer, fitter’ who can take ownership and responsibility for the production and delivery of high quality assemblies from week one. This is a hands-on role in a team where the distance between your workshop and the engineers is 15 metres. You will follow engineering drawings and standards, to trim, fit, and assemble; taking responsibility, and credit for your own work. You will work with pre-preg, infused and wet-lay materials, metals and 3D prints; and your attention to detail will be key to maintaining our quality standards. What you'll do:
- Read engineering drawings, ensure that you understand the requirements, produce and feedback a timetable to assist in planning.
- Work with various materials; composites, metals, 3D prints and foams; trim, fit and build assemblies, bonded and bolted, apply fixings anchor nuts, riv-nuts etc., where required.
- Follow strict, checklist-driven processes to ensure quality, accuracy, and full traceability.
- Assist with product improvements and implementation of customer-driven updates.
- Mentor and support more junior team members.
- Communicate material and component requirements to maintain smooth production flow, and improve design.
- Assist with preparing systems for ground and flight testing, working closely with pilots and engineers.
Essential skills/experience:
- Minimum 3 years of ‘Hands-on’ experience gained in motorsport, automotive or aerospace.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to strict checklists and quality standards.
- Proactive and reliable, with a “get it right first time” mindset.
- Demonstrable understanding of the use of fasteners, adhesives, bonding procedures.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
"Nice to have"/desired experience:
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, or light engineering assembly work.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, technicians, or operational teams throughout the business.
- Previous laminating experience, pre-preg, wet-lay, infusion.
- Use of 3D printing machines, preparation of parts for use.
