Job Description
Scientist / Senior Scientist – Molecular Biology (Cloning & Recombinant Protein Expression)
We are hiring a Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our Molecular Biology team with a focus on molecular cloning and recombinant protein expression. This role will be central to our screening efforts and the elucidation of our newly discovered reprogramming mechanism. We are looking for ambitious scientists who are keen to join a high-achieving, fast-paced and innovation-focused pre-clinical biotech at an early stage where their work can have a high impact. Our team is close-knit and values members who can collaborate, clearly express ideas and drive projects to completion. You will join a team of around 12 scientists as an early and central team member.
Our company uses epigenetic reprogramming to reverse age-accumulated traits and increase cellular functionality. Our focus is on the rejuvenation of the immune system (HSCs and T-cells) for therapeutic application in transplantation and cancer immunotherapy. The company was founded from a Nobel lab at the University of Cambridge and backed by a significant VC financing round from US and European investors. We are developing a newly discovered mechanism for cell reprogramming which we believe will be a step-change in longevity science.
If this project sounds exciting to you we would love to share more data and discuss your ideas and background.
Key Responsibilities
- Recombinant protein expression in mammalian and bacterial systems to support cell reprogramming research.
- Protein purification using His-tag affinity chromatography, AKTA-based size exclusion chromatography, and additional tag systems.
- Protein characterisation including Western blotting, mass spectrometry sample preparation, and functional assays.
- Molecular cloning using high-throughput Golden Gate assembly and custom cloning strategies (e.g., restriction enzyme-based or Gibson assembly).
- Application of cloning strategies to protein expression pipelines, viral and transposon-based screening, and custom molecular biology projects.
- Contribute to strategic discussions on optimising molecular cloning and protein expression workflows to accelerate discovery.
Required Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology, or a related discipline.
- Deep expertise in molecular cloning, recombinant protein expression, and construct design.
- Experience optimizing recombinant protein expression in at least one mammalian or bacterial system.
- Proficiency in PCR-based methods, Sanger sequencing, and construct characterization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex workflows in molecular biology and protein production.
- Curiosity, drive, and a problem-solving mindset—passionate about pushing the boundaries of science.
- Strong collaborative skills—able to communicate effectively and work cross-functionally.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with protein modelling & structural prediction tools.
- Understanding of stem-cell biology and cellular reprogramming.
- Hands-on experience with lentiviral or transposon-based gene delivery.
- Experience in NGS library preparation and qPCR.
- Familiarity with electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) and data management best practices.
What We Offer
- Highly competitive salary (£50,000 – £65,000, depending on experience).
- Stock options plan—early-stage biotech with high-growth potential.
- 28 days annual leave + public holidays.
- Private health insurance.
- Company-matched pension plan.
- The opportunity to work at the forefront of longevity science—driving breakthroughs in cellular rejuvenation.
- A fast-moving, high-impact environment where your work will directly shape the future of regenerative medicine.
