Atlassian Engineer

Location: Telford with 2 days/week in office

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Atlassian Engineer to join our growing team. This is a technical specialist role responsible for the configuration, administration, maintenance, optimisation, and delivery of Atlassian solutions across customer and internal environments.

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and associated Atlassian Marketplace applications to design, implement, migrate, and enhance enterprise collaboration and workflow solutions. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, consultancy skills, and customer engagement capabilities to ensure solutions deliver measurable business value.

As an experienced Application Engineer, you will be expected to lead technical assessments, perform platform migrations and upgrades, deliver automation capabilities, and provide expert guidance on Atlassian best practices.

Key Responsibilities Atlassian Platform Engineering

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Atlassian products including Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Bitbucket, and Bamboo.
  • Perform installation, upgrades, migrations, consolidations, and platform optimisation activities.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and maintainable Atlassian solutions.
  • Conduct technical health checks and platform assessments, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot complex platform issues and provide root cause analysis.

Solution Delivery

  • Work closely with customers and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective Atlassian solutions.
  • Configure workflows, screens, schemes, permissions, custom fields, dashboards, reports, and automation rules.
  • Deliver Jira Service Management configurations including:
    • Queues
    • SLAs
    • Request types
    • Workflows
    • Automation capabilities
  • Implement and manage Atlassian Marketplace applications where required.

Migrations & Integrations

  • Lead and support Jira and Confluence migrations between Cloud, Data Center, and Server environments.
  • Carry out application consolidations and technical migration activities.
  • Develop integrations between Atlassian products and third‑party business applications.
  • Utilise APIs and Scripting technologies to automate processes and improve platform efficiency.
  • Support data migration planning, execution, validation, and post‑migration optimisation.

Automation & DevOps

  • Configure and maintain CI/CD solutions using Bamboo and other automation tooling.
  • Develop scripts and automation processes to support platform deployment, upgrades, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Promote DevOps best practices across Atlassian solution delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency through automation.

Mandatory Experience & Qualifications Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience delivering Atlassian solutions in an Application Engineering, Administration, or Consultancy capacity.
  • Proven hands‑on experience with:
    • Jira administration and configuration
    • Confluence administration and configuration
    • Platform upgrades, migrations, and consolidations
  • Experience delivering Atlassian technical migration projects.
  • Experience conducting technical assessments and platform health checks.
  • Strong administration knowledge of:
    • Jira Software
    • Confluence
    • Bitbucket
    • Bamboo
    • Jira Service Management
  • Experience configuring Jira Service Management solutions including queues, SLAs, workflows, request types, and automation.
  • Strong API and Scripting experience for integrations and process automation.
  • Experience implementing and using CI/CD automation tooling.
  • Atlassian certifications relevant to administration and migration activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving capabilities.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience designing and configuring customer‑specific workflows and business processes.
  • Strong understanding of reporting, dashboards, and analytics within Atlassian platforms.
  • Experience implementing and administering Atlassian Marketplace applications.
  • Knowledge of Cloud and Data Center deployment models.
