Public Sector Programme Overview

We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a major public-sector transformation programme. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design and improve end-to-end services that meet user needs, align with government standards, and deliver measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end service design across complex digital and non-digital journeys.
  • Work closely with Product, UCD, Policy, BA, and Technical teams to map current and future state services.
  • Create service blueprints, user journey maps, process flows, and supporting artefacts.
  • Identify pain points, gaps, and opportunities for service improvement.
  • Champion user-centred design and ensure services meet GDS standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and stakeholder interviews.
  • Support user research activities and translate insights into actionable service design.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making by providing evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ensure solutions align with organisational goals, technical constraints, and policy requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in Service Design within UK Public Sector environments.
  • Proven experience delivering in multidisciplinary agile teams.
  • Hands-on experience producing service blueprints, journey maps, systems maps, and conceptual models.
  • Excellent knowledge of GDS frameworks, service standards, and accessibility principles (WCAG).
  • Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate them clearly.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
  • Experience supporting discoveries, alphas, and betas.

Nice-to-Have

  • Prior experience working on Home Office or other central government programmes.
  • Exposure to policy design or operational service transformation.
  • Familiarity with prototyping tools (Figma, Miro, etc.).
