Must Have Government Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end AWS cloud architectures for high-availability, secure, and scalable government systems
  • Define and maintain solution architecture blueprints, HLDs, LLDs, and technical roadmaps
  • Lead architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven architecture, and serverless patterns
  • Ensure solutions comply with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards, NCSC security principles, and DWP architecture governance
  • Provide technical leadership across DevOps, engineering, and platform teams
  • Define cloud landing zones, networking (VPCs, subnets, routing), and multi-account AWS strategies
  • Support implementation of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation)
  • Ensure robust security architecture (IAM, encryption, secrets management, zero trust principles)
  • Evaluate and select AWS services (e.g., Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, RDS)
  • Work with solution designers and engineers to ensure designs are implemented correctly
  • Participate in architecture review boards (ARB) and governance forums
  • Identify risks, technical debt, and propose remediation strategies

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience as a Technical Architect or Senior Solution Architect
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud platform
  • Background in designing large-scale, distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture
  • Event-driven systems (SNS/SQS/Kinesis/EventBridge)
  • Serverless architecture
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
  • Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity in AWS
  • Experience working in UK public sector or regulated environments (preferred)
  • Familiarity with GDS Service Standards and agile delivery models
  • Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation
