Must Have Government Experience
Key Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end AWS cloud architectures for high-availability, secure, and scalable government systems
- Define and maintain solution architecture blueprints, HLDs, LLDs, and technical roadmaps
- Lead architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven architecture, and serverless patterns
- Ensure solutions comply with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards, NCSC security principles, and DWP architecture governance
- Provide technical leadership across DevOps, engineering, and platform teams
- Define cloud landing zones, networking (VPCs, subnets, routing), and multi-account AWS strategies
- Support implementation of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation)
- Ensure robust security architecture (IAM, encryption, secrets management, zero trust principles)
- Evaluate and select AWS services (e.g., Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, RDS)
- Work with solution designers and engineers to ensure designs are implemented correctly
- Participate in architecture review boards (ARB) and governance forums
- Identify risks, technical debt, and propose remediation strategies
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Technical Architect or Senior Solution Architect
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud platform
- Background in designing large-scale, distributed systems
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture
- Event-driven systems (SNS/SQS/Kinesis/EventBridge)
- Serverless architecture
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
- Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS)
- Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity in AWS
- Experience working in UK public sector or regulated environments (preferred)
- Familiarity with GDS Service Standards and agile delivery models
- Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation
