A Steadman & Son is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of roofing and cladding profiles, supplying high quality cladding materials across the whole of the UK, offering total roofing and cladding solutions, in a wide range of insulated panels, single and twin skin systems and secondary steelwork including purlins, rails and eaves beams.

This is a key Apprentice Engineering role within a small lean maintenance team supporting the maintenance of busy manufacturing processes including general maintenance and asset care programmes. You will demonstrate continuous learning and development with the following at the core of your apprenticeship role:

  • Develop a clear understanding of Health & Safety in a workplace environment, including the care and use of PPE.
  • Learn how to undertake planned & preventative maintenance on complex manufacturing plant and processes.
  • Learn how to understand proven maintenance techniques.
  • Learn how to diagnose faults and fix breakdowns.
  • Work alongside other engineering professionals and learn how to demonstrate teamwork, autonomy and ownership in your role.
  • Learn how to carry out basic mechanical or electrical tasks while developing your confidence in maintenance practices.
  • Learn how to read technical drawings and follow clear maintenance instructions.
  • Read and understand manuals and detailed machine schematics and drawings.
  • Learn about engineering tolerances and precision maintenance techniques.
  • Learn how to undertake Planned and Preventative works programmes safely and efficiently.
  • Learn how to use tools and specialised equipment safely.
  • Learn how to undertake basic Welding & Fabrication techniques safely and efficiently.
  • Learn how to undertake basic machine shop skills, Milling, Turning, Drilling & Surface Grinding.
  • Learn how to record work accurately using proven recording systems.
  • Ask questions, learn new techniques and build your engineering and technical knowledge day by day.
  • Learn how to develop good manufacturing practices and housekeeping skills.

Training & Development

We’ll support you throughout your apprenticeship to help you succeed. You will need to:

  • Complete your Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.
  • Attend college/training sessions with other learners.
  • Build skills in mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled maintenance.
  • Gain recognised engineering qualifications within the apprenticeship programme time scale.
  • Be guided by supportive mentors who will help you grow your confidence and capabilities.

What you will bring:

  • You don’t need previous engineering experience, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
  • You must hold basic qualifications in Maths, English and a preferred science.
  • You must have a genuine interest and passion in progressing an engineering career.
  • Enjoy learning new skills and being part of a team.
  • Pay attention to detail and ask questions when unsure.
  • Communicate well and work positively with others.
  • Be reliable, safety aware and open to feedback.
  • Have a good understanding of IT skills.
  • Have the ability to travel to and from the normal place of work and college.
  • Be in a commutable distance to the Steadmans Warnell facility and supporting college.
