High Ownership, Real Product, Real Impact
The opportunity
If you’re an Engineer with a couple of years under your belt and you’re starting to look for more ownership, more responsibility, and faster growth, this is a rare opportunity to join at exactly the right moment.
At Staxy we’re at a stage where the product is live, customers are engaged, and the technical challenges are only getting more interesting. What we need now is someone who’s excited to step up, learn fast, and grow alongside the company.
Who are Staxy?
Staxy is an early-stage technology startup building products that sit at the intersection of sport, location data, and real-world behaviour. We work with organisations to better understand how people move, engage, and interact with physical spaces, using mobile technology, location data, and analytics to generate meaningful insight.
We’re already live with Aston Villa as a cornerstone client, have secured VC funding, and are seeing strong pull from customers who are actively asking them to expand the product. Backed by an experienced board with deep roots in sport and commercial leadership, we’re well past the “idea stage” and firmly into building and scaling.
The role
This is a Founding Engineer role with genuine ownership. You’ll work closely with our CTO, and founders, and will be involved across the full product lifecycle, from shaping features through to shipping them.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Building and shipping features across a mobile application and backend platform
- Working end-to-end, not just on isolated tickets
- Collaborating directly with the CTO on product priorities
- Taking ownership of smaller features early on, and growing into larger features and technical decisions over time
You won’t be micromanaged, and you won’t be siloed. The expectation isn’t that you know everything, it’s that you’re curious, proactive, and keen to learn.
The technology
As Founding Engineer, you'll be working with a modern, pragmatic stack:
- Mobile / Frontend: React Native, TypeScript
- Backend: Node.js (Fastify or similar)
- Data: MongoDB
- APIs: RESTful services and mobile-to-server communication
- Other: Mapping / location-based services
There’s also scope to get involved in machine learning over time. We already use ML to process GPS data and understand travel behaviour, and this will become a bigger focus as the platform evolves. You don’t need ML experience right now, interest and curiosity are enough.
Key responsibilities
- Build and ship features across the mobile app and backend
- Develop and consume REST APIs
- Write clean, maintainable TypeScript
- Work closely with our CTO on technical decisions and implementation
- Take increasing ownership of functionality as you grow
- Contribute ideas and improvements as the platform evolves
What we’re looking for
Must have:
- Commercial experience as a developer
- Good working knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript
- Experience building and shipping real features (ideally mobile)
- Some exposure to Node.js and backend development
- A genuine curiosity and desire to learn
- A passion for startups
Nice to have:
- React Native / Expo experience
- MongoDB
- Fastify or similar Node frameworks
- Mapping or location-based services
- Payments (e.g. Stripe)
- Any exposure or interest in machine learning
Growth & progression
Because the team is small and early-stage, this is a role where progression is earned, not capped. As Staxy grow, there will be clear opportunities to:
- Own larger areas of the product
- Influence technical direction
- Mentor future hires
- Step into more senior or lead-style responsibilities over time
If you want a role where you can look back in 12–18 months and clearly see how far you’ve come, this is that environment.
Package
Base salary of between ÂŁ50k-ÂŁ60k (Some flexibility depending on experience)
Meaningful equity options, offering genuine long-term upside as Staxy grows
Pensions contributions
Flexible working
The chance to work on a live, growing product with real users
