What if the product you helped to build next week was worn by an elite athlete the week after? At STATSports, that could be your reality. Since 2007, we’ve grown from a small Irish start-up into the global leader in GPS performance tracking, trusted by the world’s biggest clubs, leagues, and athletes. Our technology sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and sport, helping teams optimise performance, reduce injury risk, and unlock insights that were previously impossible.
The opportunity: We’re looking for a Technical Product Owner to join our product team and help define and deliver the next generation of STATSports software. This is a highly technical, hands-on role where you’ll translate business needs into clear, actionable product requirements while working closely with engineering teams. You’ll own specific technical and functional domains, make decisions about system design and trade-offs, and help ensure our products are scalable, reliable, and built with confidence.
If you enjoy bridging the gap between business and engineering, shaping complex products, and seeing your decisions delivered into real-world technology, this role is for you.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning and driving specific technical and functional areas of the product
- Translating product strategy and roadmap initiatives into clear, technically precise requirements, including epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Working day-to-day with engineering teams to clarify requirements, resolve ambiguity, and make informed technical trade-offs
- Collaborating with architects and senior engineers on solution approaches, APIs, data models, integrations, and non-functional requirements
- Ensuring requirements consider performance, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability from the outset
- Acting as the primary product voice for technical discussions, balancing user needs with platform and engineering realities
- Reviewing delivered features against requirements, validating both functional behaviour and technical intent
- Analysing customer feedback, system usage, and data insights to guide future enhancements and prioritisation
- Partnering with UX and design teams to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with user experience goals
- Working with stakeholders across engineering, data, operations, and commercial teams to align delivery with business outcomes
- Supporting release planning by identifying dependencies, risks, and technical constraints early
- Driving clarity and alignment when complex technical decisions are required
- Continuously improving product quality by turning data, insights, and feedback into actionable improvements
What we’re looking for: You’ll likely enjoy this role if you:
- Have 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, or similar role in a software-led product environment
- Have strong technical aptitude and can confidently discuss architecture, APIs, data models, and system design
- Have experience working closely with engineering teams on complex, technical products
- Have hands-on experience writing high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria with technical depth
- Understand modern software development practices and architectures (cloud platforms, services, APIs, data pipelines)
- Have experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar tools to manage and communicate requirements
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Take ownership of product outcomes and pay attention to detail
- Have a genuine passion for technology and how products are built
Nice to have (but not essential): A background in software development, engineering, data, or technical architecture, with experience in analytics-driven, real-time, or SaaS products. Familiarity with integrations, third-party platforms, or hardware-software ecosystems is a plus, along with the ability to evaluate solutions, make informed trade-offs, and balance long-term platform health with short-term delivery needs.
What’s in it for you: A key role where your decisions directly shape the products used by athletes, teams, and organisations around the world. Exposure to complex, technical products at the cutting edge of sports technology. Collaboration with engineers, architects, product managers, and data specialists in a supportive, high-performance team. The chance to influence how products are designed, delivered, and scaled for long-term success. The opportunity to leave your mark on real-world products that make an impact in elite sport.
If you enjoy defining and delivering technical products, solving complex problems, and working at the intersection of business, data, and engineering, we’d love to hear from you.
