About the Role
This is a unique dual role across STATSports and the Irish Rugby Football Union Men’s National XV team.
With STATSports, you’ll support our Elite Account Management and Product teams, helping to visualise data, inform product development, assist with client queries, and contribute to internal workshops and testing.
With the IRFU, you’ll be embedded in the Men’s XV National Team, managing all aspects of athletic performance data (notably GPS), supporting training and match preparation, and contributing to player monitoring and load management. You may also assist in pitch and gym-based sessions as directed by the Head of Athletic Performance.
This role requires significant travel with the team, averaging 20 weeks in-camp per year (33 during World Cup years).
Responsibilities
IRFU Men’s XV
- Manage collection, analysis, and communication of performance data (GPS, HR, VBT, force testing, wellness, iMGs).
- Support team and player-level planning, return to performance, and training interventions.
- Contribute across pre-camp, in-camp, and post-camp phases, working closely with the IRFU Data Scientist and wider support staff.
STATSports
- Assist with Elite Account Management queries and data visualisation.
- Support product testing and development of performance insights.
- Deliver internal workshops and contribute to product/service improvements.
About You
We’re looking for a team focused, solutions driven individual who thrives in high performance, fast paced environments. Embedded within the IRFU Men’s National Team, you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary support team and must balance multiple stakeholder needs while delivering and evolving sports science services. Strong communication skills and a proven ability to work independently under pressure are essential.
You’ll need to have:
- A degree or higher national diploma in sports/data science, physical education, or exercise science.
- 3+ years’ experience delivering sports science support within an elite team sport environment.
- Proven experience using sports science principles, GPS systems, and the STATSports Sonra suite to support the management and development of athletes.
- Full UK/EU driving licence.
- Right to work in UK/Ireland.
It’d be nice if you have:
- MSc in sport/data science.
- Elite rugby environment experience.
- Familiarity with R, Python, SPSS, Tableau, or Power BI.
