Plant/Formwork Yard Operative

Location: Grays, Thurrock, RM20

Reports To: Yard Manager

Department: Plant Department

Contract Type: Full-time

Salary: £15 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Additional Hours: Regular weekend overtime available

Job Purpose:

To support the efficient operation of the plant/formwork yard by managing, maintaining, and preparing formwork systems & plant equipment, and materials for use on site. The operative ensures all equipment is cleaned, stored, and dispatched correctly, contributing to safe and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

· Formwork Handling & Preparation

· Clean, inspect, and maintain formwork panels and components.

· Ensure formwork is correctly stacked and stored to prevent damage or hazards.

· Plant & Equipment

· Clean, inspect, paint & maintain as required for the preparation of stock as required.

· Yard Operations

· Load and unload deliveries using appropriate lifting equipment.

· Organize and maintain yard layout for efficient access and safety.

· Help monitor stock and report shortages or damages.

· Equipment Maintenance

· Carry out basic maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment.

· Ensure all equipment is fit for purpose and complies with safety standards.

· Health & Safety

· Follow all site safety protocols and PPE requirements.

· Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.

· Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.

· Team Collaboration

· Work closely with site teams, logistics, and supervisors.

· Support other yard or site tasks as needed.

Skills & Experience Required:

· Previous experience in a construction yard or similar environment.

· Familiarity with formwork systems (e.g., Alshor, Peri, RMD) is desirable.

· Ability to operate forklifts, telehandlers, or other lifting equipment (certification preferred).

· Good understanding of manual handling and safe working practices.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and tool handling skills.

· Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

· Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Qualifications:

· CSCS Card (or equivalent) – essential.

· Forklift or telehandler license – desirable.

· Manual handling and health & safety training – preferred.

Working Conditions:

· Outdoor yard environment, exposed to weather conditions.

· Physically demanding role with lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.

· Regular weekend overtime may be required depending on project needs.
