Statkraft is a renewable energy company dedicated to clean energy for over a century. We are seeking a highly technical Meteorologist to support proprietary trading activities. This role sits at the intersection of meteorology, quantitative analysis, and energy trading, with a strong focus on translating weather data into actionable trading insights.
Responsibilities
- Deliver daily operational weather analysis, including written summaries of key developments across relevant regions.
- Interpret weather patterns and extreme events and assess their impact on power, gas, and oil commodity markets.
- Develop and implement quantitative meteorological models.
- Perform statistical analysis and backtesting of weather-driven signals and their impact on market prices.
- Work with large-scale meteorological and market datasets to extract predictive insights.
- Design and maintain data pipelines for ingesting meteorological data from multiple sources (APIs, third-party providers, satellite data, etc.).
- Build dashboards and visualisation tools to communicate weather insights effectively.
- Develop user-friendly internal tools that allow traders to interact with weather data and models in real time.
- Continuously improve models and analysis based on market feedback and performance.
Qualifications
- Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong interest in energy markets and data science.
- Experience with ensemble forecast verification, uncertainty assessment, and knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of ensemble predictions.
- Experience with ECMWF operational, mid-range, and weekly ensemble forecast data.
- Strong modelling and programming experience in Python.
- Experience working with large datasets and building and maintaining data pipelines.
- Experience and willingness to interpret and present weather forecasts; strong presentation skills.
- Highly analytical, data-driven individual with advanced statistical and machine learning skills.
- Highly collaborative and reliable person, excellent communication skills, team player.
- Interest in working for a renewable-energy company and contributing to the energy transition.
- Strong commercial mindset and high level of initiative and self-motivation.
