Statkraft is a leading player in the provision of Grid Services on GB Grid, with BESS and synchronous compensators in operation, construction and development, deployed at our Greener Grid Parks by our Grid Services team. We have won contracts with NESO in Stability Pathfinders and in 6 years have more than £0.5 billion invested.
This role is available to enhance our design, planning, and strategy for the crucial stages of the developments up to investment decision – taking Statkraft’s GB Grid Services pipeline a step further, and to deliver on our ambitious business in an ever-increasing, technically complex and commercially competitive market. This role can be based in either our London or Glasgow office.
We are currently looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our Grid Services team in Statkraft UK. The Grid Services team develops Greener Grid Parks providing stability services to the National Energy System Operator (NESO) and energy in the electricity market. Our aim is to provide the services to NESO to enable the grid to run with 100% renewable energy.
We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer to:
- Directly support our new site design, development and prospecting for BESS, Stability and Hybrid projects, utilising your existing knowledge of GB transmission network, HV and MV infrastructure.
- Innovate in responding to NESO tenders to maximise our competitive position, analysing relevant data and scenarios.
- Manage the technical aspects of NESO tenders to commission and review relevant power systems analysis and modelling, check SLDs and physical infrastructure designs.
- Learn from experience of our operational assets.
- Learn from our construction projects, through supporting their delivery, to improve designs and specifications for future projects.
- Provide scrutiny of third-party engineering outputs.
- Contribute to and assess strategic and business development opportunities.
A mix of the following experience is desirable:
- Experience of delivering multiple high voltage, transmission connected power plants from early development through to investment decision, in important project roles.
- Prior commissioning and operational experience would be an additional benefit but is not essential.
- Established working relationships with NESO, Transmission Operators, industry bodies and other developers.
- Ability to integrate detailed technical requirements in NESO tenders with real assets and projects and optimise designs to maximise commercial benefit.
- Good knowledge of relevant Grid Codes, such as experience of the Grid Code Compliance Process achieving EON, ION, FON.
- Prior power systems analysis in RMS e.g. DIgSILENT Power Factory, or EMT e.g. PSCAD would be beneficial but not essential.
Qualifications:
- MSc or MEng in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering from a highly-regarded University, or equivalent study and experience level.
- The ideal candidate will also have a relevant Post-Graduate Qualification(s) in this field such as Chartered Engineer and/or PhD.
- A detail-oriented self-starter and critical thinker with the ability to manage a variable workload and tight deadlines, often providing support to processes managed by colleagues.
- Excellent written, fluent English Language, with good presentation and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other MS applications.
- Prepared to undertake occasional travel to sites and offices UK wide.
- Right to work in the UK.
