We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join a Technology Services function within a forward-thinking organisation. This role plays a key part in supporting, maintaining and improving a Microsoft-based infrastructure estate, ensuring systems remain secure, stable and scalable as the organisation continues to evolve. Working as part of a collaborative Service Delivery team, you will bring strong hands-on expertise across Microsoft server and cloud technologies, contributing to both day-to-day operational stability and longer-term infrastructure improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
- Support, maintain and optimise Windows Server and Active Directory/Entra ID environments.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services, including identity and access management.
- Manage and support Azure infrastructure, including hybrid cloud services.
- Maintain and support virtualised environments (eg VMware).
- Deliver infrastructure upgrades, migrations and improvement projects.
- Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues using structured processes.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
- Produce and maintain clear, accurate infrastructure documentation.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for infrastructure-related incidents.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure infrastructure effectively supports business operations.
- Escalate technical issues to external suppliers where appropriate.
- Participate in potential out-of-hours support via rota as required.
Required experience:
- 3-5 years' experience in a similar Infrastructure or Systems Engineer role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra ID.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365, including Intune, EMS, Defender and Autopilot.
- Working knowledge of Azure services and hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience supporting virtualisation platforms such as VMware.
- Familiarity with backup, recovery and high-availability concepts.
- Experience using PowerShell for basic scripting and automation.
- Strong troubleshooting capability with a structured, analytical approach.
Desirable experience:
- Exposure to security best practices and compliance standards.
- Experience contributing to infrastructure improvement initiatives.
- Microsoft certifications (eg AZ-104, MS-102 or similar).
Skills & attributes:
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an IT team environment.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Positive attitude and willingness to continuously learn and develop.
- Well organised with strong time management skills.
Additional information:
- Based in Edinburgh or Glasgow with hybrid working available.
- Core hours Monday to Friday, with flexibility depending on business needs.
- Occasional travel to other sites may be required.
- Willingness to attend training and development activities.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle desirable.
