Job Summary

Nurse Associate vacancy 24 hours per week. Station Lane Medical Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Practice Nurse Associate to join our friendly, supportive team. We are a well-established, forward-thinking practice with approximately 8,200 patients, 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, and an experienced multidisciplinary clinical and administrative team. We have strong clinical outcomes, good ratings and excellent patient reviews, and pride ourselves on providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a positive working environment. This vacancy has arisen due to the retirement of a highly valued Practice Nurse with over 20 years of service, and we are keen to find someone who will become an integral part of the team. The role is for 24 hours per week, with some flexibility in how these hours are arranged. Duties will include the full range of general practice nursing activities, with the opportunity to develop and specialise according to experience and service needs.

Main Duties of the Job

• Long term condition reviews (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension) using practice and national templates.
• Treatment room work: wound care, dressings, suture removal, ear care, ECGs, injections.
• Vaccinations and immunisations: childhood schedule, adult vaccines, flu, shingles, pneumonia, travel.
• Cervical screening (smear tests).
• Health promotion and prevention: NHS Health Checks, lifestyle advice (smoking, weight, exercise), contraception advice within competence.
• Supporting QOF and other practice targets through accurate coding, recall and structured reviews.
• Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to MDT meetings and care planning.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records, following practice protocols, infection control and safeguarding procedures.
• Participating in audit, training and continuing professional development to maintain skills and meet practice needs.

Station Lane Medical Centre is a GP surgery based in Featherstone, Pontefract, serving a list size of approximately 8,200 patients. We are a well-established practice with 4 GP partners, supported by a skilled and approachable multidisciplinary clinical and administrative team. Job Responsibilities

Job Title: Nursing Associate. Base: Station Lane Medical Centre, Featherstone, Pontefract. Hours: 24 Hours per Week. Responsible to: Lead Nurse Practitioner and Business Manager. Accountable to: GP Partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Work as part of the PCN/practice MDT to provide and monitor care under direct or indirect supervision.
• Perform and record clinical observations (BP, pulse, respirations, temperature, oxygen saturation, BMI).
• Undertake basic clinical procedures and tests, such as urinalysis, peak flow, simple dressings, ECGs and venepuncture (after training and signoff).
• After appropriate training, support vaccination and immunisation programmes (e.g. flu and other agreed vaccines) in line with practice protocols.
• Undertake Cervical Screening (smears).
• Undertake wound care up to tier 3 management.
• Support delivery of NHS Health Checks and other health promotion/prevention activities, including lifestyle advice and signposting.
• Assist with long-term condition reviews (e.g. CVD, respiratory, diabetes) using practice templates, escalating concerns to the supervising nurse or GP.
• Support the care of patients with dementia, mental health conditions and learning disabilities within agreed care plans and under supervision.
• Provide general health information and promote self‑management, signposting to social prescribing and other personalised care roles where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records in the practice clinical system.
• Recognise and promptly escalation of any deterioration, safeguarding concerns or issues outside own competence to an appropriate registered professional.
• Partake in clinical and research audits when required.
• Support the completion of IPC and waste compliance.

Professional and Governance

• Practise in accordance with the NMC Code and NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.
• Work within the limits of own competence and scope of practice, seeking guidance where required.
• Participate in clinical supervision and have a named supervisor within the practice/PCN.
• Maintain NMC registration and meet revalidation requirements.
• Undertake mandatory training and role-specific CPD, maintaining a professional portfolio.
• Contribute to quality improvement, audit, learning events and service development.
• Adhere to practice policies on safeguarding, infection prevention and control, confidentiality, information governance and health and safety.
• Support CQC compliance by following agreed protocols and contributing to evidence of safe, effective and well‑led care.

Teamwork and Communication

• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers and colleagues.
• Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, HCAs, pharmacists, social prescribers and other ARRS roles.
• Attend and contribute to MDT meetings and practice meetings as required.
• Promote a positive, supportive team culture in a high‑deprivation but high‑achieving practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential

• Registered Nursing Associate with the NMC, having completed an NMC‑approved Nursing Associate programme.
• Evidence of recent clinical experience in health or social care.
• Ability to perform basic clinical observations and procedures safely.
• Understanding of the Nursing Associate role within primary care and MDT working.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under supervision and use initiative within defined parameters.
• Basic IT skills and willingness to learn practice clinical systems.
• Commitment to CPD, reflective practice and quality improvement.
• Experience in general practice or community settings.
• Experience in health promotion, prevention and supporting long‑term condition management.

Qualifications – Desirable

• Experience working with people with dementia, mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
