Responsible to : Retail Supervisor

Job Purpose: To provide day to day staffing of the Guernsey Post Retail Network, working both as an individual and a team member to achieve high levels of productivity including sales and customer service. To proactively support your Retail Supervisor/Manager in the continual development and implementation in the branch to include new systems, products and processes.
Key Tasks/Accountabilities
- Ensure the highest levels of service are provided to customers at all times. This includes recommending and selling existing and new products both individually and as a team member by helping each other.
- Support all members of the team you work with sharing information and ensure colleagues are informed of up to date information.
- Assist in the provision and maintenance of a professional retail environment throughout the day. (Clear, clean, stocked).
- Comply with the current dress code relevant to the retail network and ensure that a professional image is promoted at all times.
- Actively seek to improve your retail skills, knowledge of product/services, including features and benefits through self-development and training.
- Ensure accurate balances and assist in the investigation of any financial anomalies that may arise.
- Assist team performance through understanding and communicating all relevant information to your colleagues and taking on supervisory responsibilities when your Retail Supervisor/Manager is absent.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings in a positive and constructive way, recommending solutions when required.
- Attend or provide training at any branch or Headquarters as requested.
- Participate in coaching sessions with your Retail Supervisor/Manager.
- Adopt a flexible attitude to working hours, providing cover at other branches when required.
- Other duties as may reasonably be required by your Retail Supervisor/Manager or the Commercial Manager Retail.
Key Results/Performance Measures
- Provide a knowledgeable and informed service on both existing and new services and products. Identify the appropriate product through open questions, cross selling and up selling opportunities.
- Actively work as part of the team offering support to all through coaching of each other.
- Work in a neat, tidy, and efficient manner and provide a smart workplace appearance to the customer, including behind the counter.
- Maintain a smart and professional appearance to customers and internal visitors.
- Proactively seek information on own area of work for both personal improvement and to better advise the customer.
- Take ownership of balancing responsibilities and maintain the Retail security policy as amended from time to time.
- Actively display positive communication skills, support the team and act in a commercial manner at all times.
- Attend staff meetings as required and contribute with well prepared thoughts.
- Enthusiastically attend training as required and where asked and provide support to colleagues.
- Monitor and benchmark own performance against expectations of business.
- Provide a flexible approach to the requirements in regard to hours and covering at other branches where necessary.
- Support line-managers by accepting additional duties as may be required from time to time.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience of working in a customer facing environment
- Experience of working as part of a small team
- Knowledge of electronic point of sale systems (Desirable)
- Previous experience of working on a Post Office counter (Desirable)

Police Clearance
A basic Police Clearance Certificate is required for this position.
