Job Summary
Willows Day Centre – The Willows is a specialist service maximising wellbeing and opportunities for people living with a diagnosis of dementia and enduring mental illness, whilst ensuring respect, dignity and choice. The post holder will be a professional experienced in assessing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care and support for service users living with a diagnosis of dementia and enduring mental illness.
Main duties
The Willows Manager will assume continuing responsibility for service provision within the centre. The Manager will be responsible for the assessment and allocation of placements within the day centre, ensuring person centred care is provided alongside assessing risk and maintaining the health and safety of everyone. The Willows Manager has an allocated budget, and the post holder is required to manage resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner. In consultation and collaboration with peers and Operational Managers the post holder will contribute to or lead on designated work streams relevant to the service such as policy review and safety and quality initiatives. The post holder will be responsive and innovative and always inclusive of colleagues when considering new ways of working.

Job Description
Responsibilities
- To promote and deliver a high standard of care based on best practice to maintain patient/service user safety and provide an excellent standard of care.
- To coordinate the assessment of patients/service users with complex needs including individuals with unconfirmed diagnosis.
- To coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of specialised programmes of care utilising evidence and research.
- To lead a team of staff and provide specialist advice in acute and chronic situations ensuring that the patients/service users needs are met along with their support network.
- To ensure patient/service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
- To utilise data and information from a range of sources to identify patient/service user condition to guide decision making.
- Within field of expertise and policy and where appropriate, request specific clinical tests to establish a diagnosis.
- To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
- To ensure that professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the postholder\’s sphere of responsibility.
- To manage all incidents as per policy and participate in risk management and quality and safety processes e.g. SWARM.
- To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and escalate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate processes.
Communication
- To build and advocate a therapeutic relationship with patients/service users and their support network, communicating with them in a way that respects their views, language, cultural differences and cognitive function.
- To use and promote a wide range of communication skills that can be adapted to meet the needs of complex and challenging situations.
- To manage conflict between individuals including staff, patients/service users and their support network.
- To establish and promote effective working relations with all members of the multidisciplinary team and outside agencies, clearly relaying condition related information in a timely and effective manner.
- To provide clear, concise, and accurate electronic and paper records of the care given in accordance with agreed policy and standards.
Leadership
- To act as a professional role model for staff, advocating for patients and service users and promoting high standards of practice and strong professional values.
- To lead the department or service.
- To lead and coordinate nurse led and multi-agency activities within area of specialist practice.
- To lead on the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents related to own clinical area, ensuring that learning is shared with own team and wider HSC.
- To promote own and team success and excellent standards of care by reflecting, challenging others constructively, upholding HSCs CARE Values.
- To ensure team members are aware of organisational objectives, policies and procedures and implications that they have for their practice.
Planning and Organisation
- To organise own workload and that of others, demonstrating the ability to recognise changing priorities and adjusting plans accordingly.
- To lead with shift planning/work scheduling for the service area including the appropriate allocation of staff to ensure safe levels of care.
- To lead, coordinate and delegate activities to colleagues where applicable within agreed systems of working, considering required skill mix and staffing levels, in accordance with patient/service user need.
Qualifications and Experience

- Registered Mental Health Nurse RMN
- Substantial experience at a Band 6 or equivalent
- Practice assessor, practice supervisor

- Evidence of leadership and change management with an understanding of quality improvement methodology.
