Healthcare Assistant – Roustel Ward – Band 3
Job Summary
The States of Guernsey are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team in Roustel Ward. We have both part‑time and full‑time vacancies available. Roustel Ward is a 20‑bedded unit that provides nursing care for people living with dementia whose behavioural needs cannot be met in the community.
Main Duties
- Carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of a registered nurse, with minimal supervision.
- Ensure high‑quality, individualised care is delivered to service users with advanced dementia and other mental health diagnoses, maintaining privacy and dignity.
- Support service users in the performance of activities of daily living within care plans.
- Monitor and report changes in service users’ presentation to the staff member in charge and take appropriate action.
- Follow all relevant policies and procedures.
- Report issues of concern in line with policy and contribute to any quality and safety processes.
- Use a wide range of communication skills adapted to complex and challenging situations.
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate electronic and paper records of the care given in accordance with agreed policy and standards.
- Promote high‑quality care through role‑modeling professional behaviours and advocacy on behalf of patients.
- Organise own workload and tasks, prioritising as appropriate.
- Contribute to effective team working through constructive communication and support.
- Attend and participate in team meetings.
- Use public funds and equipment responsibly, monitor consumables, minimise waste, and handle valuables in accordance with policies.
- Complete the Care Certificate and Band 3 Competency Pathway within specified time.
- Complete training in accordance with statutory, mandatory and essential training policy.
- Participate in supervisory one‑to‑one meetings and the HSC Values‑Based Appraisal process.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance patient safety and care.

Person Specification – Qualifications (Desirable)
- Support to achieve either of the following within an agreed timeframe: Care Certificate in first 6 months; Band 3 competency framework.
- Potential to pursue the Student Nurse Associate qualification registered under the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) enabling progression to a Band 4.
- Candidates holding a Level 3 VQ Diploma in Health & Social Care are deemed to have an equivalent qualification and may not need to complete the full Band 3 competency pathway.
