The Sustainability Office at State Street provides enterprise-wide leadership across State Street’s global sustainability and climate program, including strategy, policy, governance, and external engagement. We are looking for a Vice President to lead the development of our approach to and ensure compliance with emerging global sustainability reporting standards. The sustainability team works in close partnership with the Sustainability Controllers, based in Finance, as well as with colleagues across the company, notably Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Data.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Sustainability Reporting Standards and Policy: Be the subject-matter expert on sustainability reporting standards, working with Public Policy, Legal, Risk and Compliance to determine how these apply to State Street. Engage with peers/best practice and monitor industry trends to inform State Street’s approach to sustainability reporting. Liaise with the Head of Sustainability Data and Sustainability Controllers on future/emerging regulatory expectations.
  • State Street Corporate Sustainability Report: Formulate the strategy for State Street Corporation’s annual Sustainability Report, which describes how State Street approaches sustainability and ESG-related issues. Partner with business areas, subject-matter experts and stakeholders to ensure material issues are covered appropriately. Engage with the cross-functional team, supporting the report’s development.
  • Materiality Assessments: Provide strategic leadership over the approach to materiality, having regard to emerging mandatory standards, peer best practice and advice from the external assurance provider, determine the right approach for State Street. Analyze assessment results and review stakeholder feedback collected from annual meetings and other investor engagements to develop a recommendation on which important topics State Street will manage, measure and report on. Present findings and recommendations to internal committees.

Job Requirements And Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree, with work experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate reporting, or financial services.
  • 10–12 years of progressive professional experience.
  • Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks, including ESRS, ISSB/SASB, GRI, TCFD, and eagerness to learn and leverage best practices.
  • Strong project management and execution skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizations to achieve business objectives and work across various business units.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage with a variety of audiences, including senior management.
  • Ability to manage data and ensure organizational compliance with high standards of data governance.
