The Strategist will be based in London and the key responsibility will be to provide Equity research support for the Equity Strategy team, as part of the broader Macro Strategy team. The role of the Macro Strategy team is to support the growth in State Street’s Markets business. It combines our unique capabilities in data and analytics to better serve our clients and build relationships with new customers. The aim of the group is to create and apply a full spectrum of proprietary indicators, tools and ideas that enable our clients to identify opportunities, develop new perspectives and make more informed investment decisions in the global asset markets. This role can be performed in a light hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements. However, four day a week office attendance is a requirement.

The team you will be joining is a part of State Street Markets (SSM). When owners and managers of institutional assets need research, trading, securities lending and innovative portfolio strategies, they turn to SSM. As our investment research and trading arm, SSM’s number one goal is to enhance and preserve our clients’ portfolio values by applying technology, optimizing trading, and linking asset classes and markets across the world.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Author bespoke research reports on a range of equity investment topics, assessing equity markets at a country, sector, industry group and industry level, and assessing the role and weight of equities within asset allocation strategies.
  • Create and deliver exceptional presentations to clients and at regular research conferences and industry events. The role will require client travel within months of start date.
  • Work closely with the rest of the Macro Strategy team to contribute to discussion of broad investment regimes, as well as taking their implications for forming equity recommendations.
  • Compile and distill inputs from vast information sets and complex relationships into a clear and focused investment thesis combining fundamental, quantitative, and proprietary indicators into their analysis.
  • Provide commentary incorporating SSM's proprietary measures of investor behavior, risk and inflation indicators.
  • Collaborate with award winning academics and industry practitioners and present work at industry conferences.
  • Manage multiple projects relating to team processes, in a drive to achieving greater efficiency in research engagement, while maintaining strict attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with investment analysis, valuation and factor investing are essential, as are understanding of broader macro investing / asset allocation.
  • Strong written communication skills. One of the core functions is the generation and coordination of written research. The ability to write clear, concise, and digestible research is critical.
  • Strong quantitative skills. The candidate should be highly numerate with a strong familiarity with statistical techniques.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong academic background in economics, finance or statistics/data science, attaining a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Passage of CFA Level 3 will be viewed favourably.
  • 10+ years’ client‑facing experience in financial markets working on equity investment strategy, or macro strategy with an equity focus. Candidates from both buy‑ and sell‑side institutions will be considered.
  • Extensive experience with Bloomberg, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Comfort with Bloomberg BQL; DataStream and Python is preferred.
