State Street’s Prime Services is an alternative to prime brokerage and is a platform that allows clients to borrow securities and finance from a segregated custody account. This structure can reduce counterparty risk, offers additional transparency, and provides more control over assets. The result is a more efficient and cost‑effective way to manage alternative investment strategies. Prime Services has been in business for over fifteen years, has a global client base, continues to experience exponential growth, and is currently one of the fastest growing products within State Street. We are looking for an electronic trader in London to help us manage the existing book of business and grow our share in a competitive market landscape. Due to the role requirements this job needs to be performed primarily in the office.
The team you will be joining is a part of State Street Markets (SSM). When owners and managers of institutional assets need research, trading, securities lending and innovative portfolio strategies, they turn to SSM business unit. As our investment research and trading arm, SSM’s number one goal is to enhance and preserve our clients’ portfolio values by applying technology, optimizing trading, and linking asset classes and markets across the world. What You Will Be Responsible For
- Develop and maintain strong and diverse borrower relationships to ensure State Street is their primary partner.
- Borrow and lend securities to cover and manage clients’ short positions.
- Provide daily color on hard to borrow securities and special situations to portfolio managers, analysts, execution traders, and treasury personnel.
- Financial resource optimization and risk management to drive returns.
- Work closely with partner teams in Sales, Client Management, and Product Development to deliver an exceptional product experience for our clients.
- Support the trading desk in strategic initiatives, including liquidity management, capital optimization, and business growth planning.
- Contribute to product development efforts, including testing new features, gathering client feedback, and refining the Prime trading product offering.
- Proven track record of managing hedge fund client relationships, effectively addressing complex queries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.

- Strong skills in modeling and programming – experience programming in procedural/object‑oriented and/or scripting languages: Python (preferred).

- Outstanding communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with business leaders and technical teams alike.

Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in Securities Finance trading.
- Self‑starter, motivated by making the entire team successful.
- Proficiency in Bloomberg and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical discipline such as Computer Science, IT, Financial Engineering, Engineering, Science, Economics, Maths or Statistics preferred.
