Our highly successful, multi-faceted eFX trading business is an integral part of State Street Markets offering. Capitalizing on significant growth in revenues, products and capabilities, State Street is investing further into the business to accelerate growth by deploying the latest cutting-edge technology, computational techniques, market insights and talent.

In particular, we seek individuals to enhance our alpha research and trading team, which complements our fully automated market making, benchmark, and client execution algo businesses. This established and successful team of dedicated alpha quants possess a mature research and back testing infrastructure as well access to rich public and proprietary information that can be readily utilized by the right candidate.

We are seeking an individual who can contribute to and extend our existing suite of alpha strategies. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of developing and deploying systematic trading strategies that generate robust returns net of transaction costs in live trading environments.

We are open to strategies across a range of time horizons, including intraday, event-driven, and longer-horizon approaches. While our core capability today is in spot FX and NDF, we are open to expanding into additional instruments and asset classes in the future (such as FX Swap, cash equities, or futures) where there is a compelling alpha opportunity.

Given the maturity of our infrastructure and platform, we expect candidates to be able to bring research ideas into production within a relatively short time frame, and then build on that foundation to scale and diversify their contribution over time.

Our preferred candidate will have outstanding academics in a hard science, ideally up to PhD level. Substantial practical experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques is also a bonus.

The team you will be joining is a part of State Street Markets (SSM). When owners and managers of institutional assets need research, trading, securities lending and innovative portfolio strategies, they turn to SSM business unit. As our investment research and trading arm, SSM’s number one goal is to enhance and preserve our clients’ portfolio values by applying technology, optimizing trading, and linking asset classes and markets across the world.

  • Using public and proprietary data, identify new opportunities to generate P&L
  • Develop research all the way from prototype to production
  • Analyze the behaviors of production trading models on an on-going basis, looking for areas of improvement

  • Ability to complement technical high-frequency analysis with market insights and experience
  • A healthy skepticism about the robustness and generalisability of in-sample results
  • A working habit of first investigating simpler, parsimonious models
  • Desire to work within a collaborative, team-driven environment

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (engineering, statistics, mathematics, physics, or similar)
  • Experience of a fast prototyping language such as Python (preferably), or Matlab, R, etc.
  • Working knowledge of an industrial scale language such as Java or C++ is a plus

We truly believe in the power that comes from the diverse backgrounds and experiences our employees bring with them.
