The Division of Adult Institutions is recruiting for a Teacher – Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Special Education (SPED) position located at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution in Plymouth, WI.
This position develops and implements a program of professional educational services in Special Education for students with one or more disabilities as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instructions (DPI) that meet their assessed individual academic needs.
Responsibilities:- Manage evaluations (initial and three-year), coordinate diagnostic testing, and develop the students’ IEPs.
- Monitor student progress, assess evidence-based practices and materials, maintain confidential records, and plan transitions.
Starting salary for this position is between $27.00 and $35.06 per hour, plus benefits. Supplemental pay up to $2.97/hr. may be available for additional credits relevant to the position beyond required certification. Pay upon appointment follows the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. Pay schedule/range is 13-04. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Benefits include substantial leave time, health/dental/vision/life insurance, a pension plan with lifetime retirement payments, a 457 retirement plan, wellness programs, Employee Assistance Program, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility, and other State of Wisconsin benefits.
Job Details:Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks and fingerprinting upon hire. A pre-employment drug screen may be required and must be passed as a condition of employment. Note: Remote work is not available for this position.
Qualifications:Minimally qualified applicants must meet the criteria described below and attach relevant transcripts and other credentials. Missing or illegible materials may affect eligibility.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a Wisconsin DPI license in Special Education for grades 9 through 12 (Learning Disabilities; Cognitive Disability; Emotional Behavior Disability; or Cross-Categorical Special Education).
- Possession of, or eligibility for, an Adult Basic Education Teacher credential by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.
Positions may require one of the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Elementary Education; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Secondary Education in Reading, English, Math, Science, or Social Studies; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Special Education; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher with a minor or 15 combined semester credits in Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social Studies (Teaching degree preferred).
Recommend Teaching Methods course if no prior teaching experience or no credits in Teaching Methods. Note: This does not include Health, Art, Music, or Physical Education for any of the above areas.
