Nurse Clinician 4

The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Nurse Clinician 4 position. This position is based out of Stanley Correctional Institution in Stanley, WI (Chippewa County). This is a re‑announcement. Those who applied previously need not apply again.

Position Summary

The Nurse Clinician 4 (NC4) functions independently in an expanded clinical role giving expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients who have complex care needs. This position demonstrates training, understanding and utilization in Nursing Practice and the Nursing process.

Actively participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Consults with the multi‑disciplinary team within the institution, other DOC institutions and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with multiple medical and psychiatric needs.

Identifies, develops and implements plans to meet the learning needs of inmate patients, staff, students, and community agencies related to medical care and re‑entry of patients. Participates in collaborative program planning to meet the health needs of patients at the institution and in the community when they are due to be discharged.

Initiates and participates in research and quality improvement activities. Identifies own learning needs and keeps current in nursing practice and the specialty of correctional nursing.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $47.74/hour – $56.10/hour. Pay will be set considering years of nursing licensure and in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.

This position is anticipated to work on average 5 days a week from 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM, with the possibility of instead working 4 days a week 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM if desired. Schedule details can be discussed at time of interview. This position may be scheduled for weekends and holiday coverage. This position may sometimes need to work extra hours to cover unanticipated absences.

This position is FLSA Exempt.

This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Special requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minimally Qualified Applicants Will Have Experience:

  • Developing, refining, and revising a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation of current treatment plan results.
  • Coordinating chronic disease management including patient education, care planning, medication monitoring, and nursing and ACP follow‑up care.
  • Collaborating with other supervisors regarding general unit management.

Well‑qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Evaluating care provided by nursing staff and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Identifying and planning to meet learning needs of complex chronic disease patients and other correctional nursing staff related to delivering high quality nursing care.
  • Developing and participating in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Additional Requirements

  • Must maintain certification in BLS by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.
  • Must have ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires the ability to perform the following minimal physical requirements: move freely, lift up to 40 lbs., carry, manipulate tools and objects as needed for patient care. Full details available on the position description upon request.
