  • Salary range: $110,357 - $127,333 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join our Horsham office. In this role, you will provide high quality legal services, represent clients, and conduct casework in family law, child protection and family violence including intervention order matters. You will also work as a duty lawyer in the Magistrates Court of Victoria and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, including the Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) pilot project. You will mentor and train junior lawyers, help develop legal education programs and take part in policy and law reform projects. Some travel is required for community outreach and support.

This role is based at our Horsham office on Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagalk Country.

About you

  • Strong knowledge of family law, family violence, and child protection law, with experience in relevant court processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse clients, particularly those facing social and economic disadvantage.
  • The ability to supervise and mentor junior legal staff and contribute to the development of training and educational programs.
  • Independent Children's Law experience is desirable.
  • A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
  • Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners) (mandatory).
