MnDOT's Phoenix Program offers student worker opportunities for high school students interested in engineering or other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers. Phoenix Student Workers gain hands-on experience in various functional areas by working at MnDOT offices and districts statewide. This posting will fill multiple vacancies for the Phoenix Program in locations including Duluth, Bemidji, Golden Valley, Mankato, Maplewood, Oakdale, Rochester, Roseville, St. Cloud, St. Paul, and Willmar. The position may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) high school, have taken PLTW or other STEM courses, or participate in Step Up Achieve Twin Cities or St. Paul’s Right Track programs.
  • Completed junior year by June 2026 and entering senior year for the 2026–2027 school year.
  • 3.0 or higher GPA.
  • Submit the Phoenix Program supplemental form and an unofficial transcript.

The background check may consist of the following components: SEMA4 Records Check, Criminal History Check, Employment Reference Check, Driver’s License Check, and Education/License Verification.
