The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Education Associate 2 (HIT Program Southeast Region Coordinator) located in Douglas, Alaska!

What you will be doing:

• Supporting volunteer instructors to deliver public hunter education, bowhunter education, muzzleloader education, and crossbow education courses.
• Recruiting, training, coordinating, and evaluating instructors as well as assisting the HIT Program Coordinator with the development of course materials.
• Providing teaching and administrative supplies to the volunteer instructors and maintaining contact with certification course students.
• Acting as the first line of public contact for inquiries regarding the various certification classes, clinics, and activities offered by the HIT Program.
• Assisting with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW), and other shooting sports clinics/classes.
• Occasionally teaches certification classes.

The Education Associate 2 is part of the HIT Program’s statewide team of eight staff and over 500 volunteer instructors engaged in educating the public and recruiting new hunters and shooting sports enthusiasts. As part of this team, the position will work with an array of dedicated volunteer instructors and the general public (all ages) to promote safe and enjoyable hunting and shooting experiences.

The working environment you can expect:

This position is based in the Douglas ADF&G regional office and will also spend a fair amount of time at the Juneau Hunter Education Shooting Complex. The Education Associate 2 will be in contact daily with the public, HIT Program volunteer instructors, and ADF&G regional staff. They will also be in regular contact with other HIT Program staff and will assist with providing hunter education at local schools and other Southeast communities. The work schedule can be irregular, including some evenings and weekends. Requires travel within the state.

Who we are looking for:

• Strong understanding of firearms and ammunition, firearms safety, and hunting practices and culture.
• Ability to establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with other agency staff, volunteers, and the community.
• Good planning and organizational skills are required, as well as strong public speaking and writing skills.
• Ability to multi-task effectively and coordinate multiple program components and support activities.
• Ability to work irregular schedules, including some weekends, evenings, and overnight stays.

Special Note:

• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must be able to legally carry and effectively use firearms.
• First Aid/CPR. For those not already certified, training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.
• Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
• NRA Range Safety Officer certification (within 6 months of hire).

Examples of duties:

• Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
• OR Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the technical/paraprofessional.
• OR Any combination of the above.

Qualifications:

• Three (3) professional references with current contact information.
• Transcripts, if using to meet minimum qualifications (unofficial copies are acceptable).
