The Opportunity
We are looking for an ambitious and commercially driven
Business Development Manager to join a growing organisation based in Wolverhampton. This is a new business-focused role for someone who enjoys identifying opportunities, developing relationships and converting prospects into new business.
You will be responsible for proactively identifying potential clients, generating leads, making outbound calls, arranging meetings and building strong relationships with business owners, directors and senior decision-makers.
A key part of the role will be attending business events, networking opportunities, exhibitions and industry functions .
You will be expected to actively build your professional network, represent the organisation and identify new opportunities through face-to-face relationship building.
This role would suit someone who is confident, persuasive, energetic and motivated by results, and who genuinely enjoys speaking to people and creating new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and target new business opportunities.
- Generate new leads through outbound calling, Linked In, networking, referrals, events and other business development activity .
- Make regular outbound calls to prospective clients.
- Research businesses and identify relevant decision-makers and opportunities.
- Arrange and conduct meetings with
CEOs, MDs, business owners and senior decision-makers .
- Build strong, professional and long-term relationships with prospective clients.
- Understand clients' business needs and confidently communicate the value of the organisation's services.
- Deliver persuasive presentations and pitches where required.
- Manage opportunities from initial contact through to successful conversion.
- Follow up consistently with prospects and maintain momentum throughout the sales process.
- Confidently handle objections and negotiate with prospective clients.
- Work towards and achieve agreed new business targets and KPIs .
- Attend networking events, exhibitions, conferences, forums and business meetings to build relationships and generate new opportunities.
- Represent the organisation professionally at external events.
- Develop and maintain a strong local business network.
- Identify opportunities for developing new sectors and markets.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity and opportunities within the CRM.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure a smooth handover once new business is secured.
About You
We are looking for someone who is confident, commercially minded and genuinely enjoys new business development .
You will ideally have
- At least 3 years' experience in Business Development, B2B Sales or a similar commercial role .
- A proven track record of winning new business.
- Experience working towards and achieving sales targets or KPIs.
- Confidence engaging with senior decision-makers, business owners and directors .
- Strong outbound sales and lead-generation experience.
- Experience managing the full sales cycle, from prospecting through to closing.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and closing skills.
- A confident and professional telephone manner.
- A consultative approach to sales, with the ability to understand client needs and tailor your approach.
- Excellent relationship-building and networking skills.
- Confidence attending events and representing an organisation professionally.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Experience using CRM systems.
- Confidence using Linked In and other digital platforms to identify and engage with prospects.
- A genuine interest in developing relationships within the local business community.
Experience in a
B2B, membership, subscription, professional services or business-support environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Knowledge of
Wolverhampton, the Black Country and the wider West Midlands business community would also be highly beneficial.
