Project Engineering Support Technician Location: Durham Salary: circa 37,000 basic Reporting to: Project Engineering Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on and motivated Project Engineering Support Technician to join our client’s busy Engineering team in Durham. This role will support the installation of engineering solutions across new and existing plant, with a strong focus on mechanical installation, pipework, fabrication, and boiler monitoring. You will play a key part in delivering engineering projects while ensuring minimal disruption to production operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled engineer with a background in manufacturing, food production, or industrial environments who enjoys practical, project-based work. Ideally someone with pipework and fabrication experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Install pipework, valves, and associated utility systems
- Assist with design and modification of pipework installations
- Fabricate components, jigs, fixtures, and assemblies as required
- Carry out welding, brazing, and soldering to complete installation works
- Perform daily and weekly boiler checks and maintain accurate records
- Support and coordinate with installation contractors
- Liaise with Production and Planning teams to minimise disruption
- Order materials and components for installation works
- Install lagging where required
- Operate MEWP equipment where necessary
This role requires flexibility and a proactive approach as duties may evolve in line with business needs.
Ideal Background & Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
- Mechanical Maintenance Engineering
- Mechanical Fitting or Pipefitting
- Fabrication and Welding
- Project Engineering support within manufacturing
Industry experience in the following environments would be highly advantageous:
- Food & Beverage manufacturing
- Bottling or packaging operations
- FMCG production
- Industrial manufacturing or process engineering
Qualifications & Certifications (Desirable)
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering / Maintenance
- Time-served mechanical apprenticeship
- City & Guilds in Fabrication & Welding
- Boiler operation knowledge (BOAS qualification desirable)
- IPAF / MEWP certification
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical installation expertise
- Pipework fabrication and fitting capability
- Competent in welding, brazing, and soldering
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Knowledge of boiler monitoring and utility systems
- High level of health & safety awareness
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team
