Team: Evidence and Learning

Reports to: Head of Evidence and Learning

Start Network is looking for a Network Impact and Learning Advisor to lead evidence, impact measurement, research and learning across our hubs and wider network-development work.

We are a global network of over 160 organisations working to shift power, resources and decision-making towards people affected by crises. Our hubs bring organisations together to shape humanitarian action in their own contexts. You will help us understand what these networks are achieving, how change happens and where we need to adapt.

The Role

  • Lead hub impact measurement: implement and strengthen our Hub Impact Measurement Framework, combining practical monitoring with qualitative and systems-change approaches.
  • Generate credible, useful evidence: design, conduct and commission research and evaluations, drawing out patterns and differences across contexts.
  • Support locally owned learning: work alongside hubs to develop approaches that reflect their priorities, respect their knowledge and avoid unnecessary reporting burdens.
  • Turn learning into action: facilitate peer exchange and collective reflection, helping evidence inform strategy, practice and resource allocation.

About you

You bring substantial experience in impact measurement, MEAL, applied research or evaluation, alongside strong analytical judgement and facilitation skills. You can combine qualitative and quantitative evidence, explain uncertainty clearly and distinguish between delivering activities and contributing to meaningful change.

You enjoy working across organisational and cultural boundaries, building equitable relationships and making complex ideas practical. You are comfortable questioning assumptions, including your own, and helping people use evidence to make decisions. Experience with locally led organisations, networks or systems-change approaches would be particularly valuable.

The Company

Start Network is made up of more than 90 non-governmental organisations across five continents, ranging from large international organisations to local and national NGOs. Our programmes allow members to deliver humanitarian action around the world.

Our mission is to create a new era of humanitarian action that will save even more lives. We aren’t driven by media headlines or political will, we’re here for the communities affected by and at risk of crises.

We are an organisation committed to doing things differently. For some roles, we need more technical humanitarian expertise, but for other roles, we are looking for relevant transferable skills, the right attitude, and a passion to bring change.
