Role Purpose

The Trainee Underwriter role is the first step on the ladder and sets the foundations for an Underwriting career.

The role principally entails providing underwriting and administrative support to the Property (D&F and DUA) underwriting team, working closely with Operations, Exposure Management, Claims and Pricing teams, as well as other business stakeholders, to ensure efficient running of the underwriting process and the accuracy and integrity of the team’s data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process new and renewal business submissions.
  • Ensure underwriting files are complete, accurate and audit-ready, including validating the accuracy and credibility of data being entered into underwriting systems.
  • Assist with bordereaux and exposure data validation.
  • Track renewal pipelines and monitor key inception dates.
  • Provide an effective feedback loop for issues identified and work with the Underwriters to resolve any issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows and processes.
  • Communicate with brokers by e-mail and telephone, ensuring the underwriters have all the information required to commute the underwriting process.
  • At all times, maintain strong service standards and ensure timely response to requests from underwriters.
  • Self-adherence to all regulatory requirements, guidelines and working practices.
  • Embody and amplify the IQUW values in all aspects of day-to-day activity.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by line management.
