The role:

The Head of Claims Operations is a key member of the UK&I Claims Leadership team supporting the Chief Claims Officer in setting the overall Claims strategy and operational delivery across UK&I.

The position manages the Corporate and Specialty Claims Operations teams by providing strategic direction and support to the two Team Managers as they deliver claims operational services, outsourced TPA claims processing, and transactional claims handling.

Reporting to the CCO, the Head of Claims Operations will look to improve processes as the ONE Claims model continues to evolve, aligning processes in Specialty and Corporate where possible. This will include regular reviews of transactional claims handling aiming to improve efficiency and increase service levels for our brokers and customers.

Key accountabilities:

Claims Leadership

  • The Head of Claims Operations is a key member of the UK&I Claims Leadership team supporting the CCO in setting the Claims strategy and operational delivery across UK&I.
  • Provide leadership to the Claims Operations team, identifying opportunities for process improvement and alignment across Corporate and Specialty, including transactional claims handling.
  • Regularly update the UK&I Claims Leadership team on all areas of Claims Operations, including the development of common KPIs spanning Corporate and Specialty.

Excellence in Claims Operations

  • Drive excellence across Corporate and Specialty Claims Operations.
  • Share best practices across Claims Operations, including staff development.
  • Establish and maintain systems for monitoring, measuring, and reporting on operational performance.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to share best practices across departments.
  • Review and approve Claims Operations processes annually.
  • Support global initiatives, process improvements, and best practice sharing with Home Office and other branches.

Claims Systems

  • Be the business owner for UK&I Claims systems, serving as the key contact for ICP and other new systems.

Data Quality

  • Work with the Head of Claims Performance and Claims Directors to create a common MI set to support Claims Managers.
  • Drive and monitor data quality within UK&I Claims.

People & Culture

  • Manage the two Claims Operations Team Managers, providing guidance and support.
  • Define team objectives, conduct performance reviews, and support recruitment and onboarding.
  • Identify skills gaps and training needs, providing opportunities for growth.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and promote a culture of open communication and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company positively in the market and enhance our claims reputation.

Business Transformation & Process Improvement

  • Lead the implementation of ONE HDI in UK&I Claims, aligning systems and processes across entities.
  • Identify and improve processes with the UK&I Claims Leadership Team.

Project Management

  • Oversee and deliver departmental projects and contribute to wider initiatives.
  • Lead or support projects assigned by the UK&I CCO and leadership team.

Skills & experience:

  • Proven Claims market experience.
  • Experience in account and people management.
  • Understanding of the London Market principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of claims processes, broking procedures, and claims reporting.
  • Vendor/Expert Management experience.
  • Up-to-date legal and technical knowledge relevant to claims.
  • Proficiency with IT applications, including external systems like ECF2.
  • Strong analytical skills and financial interpretation abilities.
  • Influencing skills and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Budget management experience may be required in future.
