Job Description
The Role
Canopius has an established team of Direct and Facultative Property underwriters (D&F) and claims adjusters working collaboratively to provide exceptional customer service and innovative solutions to our clients.
The underwriting team provides insurance for a wide range of open market and facultative coverages in North America and the rest of the world. Insurance coverage includes Homeowners and Commercial Property. Our underwriters are market-leading experts in their specialist areas, offering a variety of coverage options that allow the successful candidate to work closely with internal and external stakeholders on claims across different risks, jurisdictions, and industries.
Canopius is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented claims professional with knowledge of handling claims in the London insurance market. The individual will proactively adjust D&F claims from initial notification through settlement.
The successful candidate will act in accordance with, drive, and further the aims set out in the Canopius claims vision: “to continually push the boundaries of customer excellence through an empowered, collaborative and innovative approach to claims; to be the envy of the market”.
Responsibilities Will Include
- Develop a thorough understanding of the claims within the D&F portfolio.
- Proactively adjust claims within your claims authority and in accordance with the Canopius Claims Vision and claims manual; ensuring and delivering the highest service to our customers by effectively driving claims through to resolution.
- Ensure sufficient financial provisions, in line with the Canopius reserving philosophy, are held for all claims within your portfolio.
- Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, especially with underwriters and actuaries.
- Manage delegated claims in accordance with Canopius’s claims values; oversee TPAs/Service Providers through regular contact meetings, peer reviews, technical file reviews, and sharing of best practices.
- Instruct and work proactively with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to ensure optimal outcomes while controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.
Skills And Experience
- Experience as a claims handler with property claims handling background.
- Knowledge of policy coverage, negotiation skills, and claims strategy.
- Understanding of legal, regulatory, and territorial issues related to policy wordings.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines proactively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage complex issues and escalate appropriately.
- Knowledge of the Lloyd’s insurance market is preferred but not essential.
- A commitment to excellence and high personal standards.
