Roles and Responsibilities

  • Three year rotational underwriting training within major lines of business to include Property, Energy and Construction;
  • Attend intensive specialist insurance training courses and external conferences;
  • Attend regular meetings with designated mentor as part of learning and discussion forum to ensure retention of knowledge and promote cross-selling;
  • Commence studying for CII qualifications;
  • Develop understanding of London and International insurance markets;
  • Develop understanding of current business strategies and broker contacts in Saudi region;
  • Commence studying for CII qualifications;
  • Ensure that underwriting files are complete and contains all relevant documents. Obtain any outstanding items from the broker or underwriter in readiness for Peer Review;
  • Ensure that signings are accurate and are consistent with written confirmations;
  • Liaise with brokers to follow up on outstanding renewals as directed;
  • Produce standard and ad-hoc reports as required;
  • Fully understand the risk and seek further clarity as required;
  • Underwrite profitable business in accordance with business plans;
  • Adhere to all Starr underwriting standards as outlined in the Underwriting Manual;
  • Report any suspicion of financial crime to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer immediately;
  • Operate within the Company’s standards for Treating Customers Fairly;
  • Manage any potential conflicts of interest to avoid disrepute to the company’s integrity;
  • Advise Compliance of any complaints immediately.

Experience

  • Saudi National or dual UK/Saudi citizens likely to have studied at a London or UK business school;
  • Good cultural understanding of the UK and Middle East region;
  • Insurance knowledge desirable.

Skills

  • Fluent Arabic and English essential;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Negotiation, judgment and decision making ability;
  • Strong numeracy skills;
  • Professional business writing and presentation skills; and
  • Strong communicator, both written and oral.
