I’m currently recruiting on behalf of my client, a leading tier 1 main contractor, an experienced Technical Manager.
Location: Northampton
Start date: Asap
Salary range: £80K - £90K + package, this will be based on experience.

Role Description:
- Report to and assist the Design Director in staff development, project reviews and technical matters for the Multi-room Design Management department.
- Assist in the technical evaluation of tenders and appointment of consultants.
- Provide short term or end of project cover for projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report on the progress of allocated staff in the following areas:
- Review project progress with Ops Manager and MQS.
- Ideally meet with project design resources one day per week to support them in their career and on the project. Review risks, IRS progress and gateway reviews to identify key points to address. Share information from TM weekly meetings and wider business.
- Encourage the sharing of ideas and questions on TEAMS, visits to other sites and contact with other team members.
- Develop the initial IRS at tender stage based on the contract program with float removed. Procurement dates agreed with MQS.
- Ensure that the Q03(M) process is being adhered to.
- Monitor and report on project team attendance at DTMs.
- Ensure all design management ‘T’ forms are reviewed and commented on and ensure updated as site progresses.
- Review all contract documents and identify any key design management points and add risks to the Risk & Opps schedule. Initially through Tender stage – then to monitor/assist/discuss with SDM & PM & MQS during production phase.
- Continually monitor design progress for contract adherence.
- Monitor ‘golden Thread’s information and ensure that it is being captured.
- Organise dates and topics for Technical Reviews.
- Ensure that the SDM’s/DM’s and M&E DM’s have clear responsibilities. Support the M&E DM’s in the install and commissioning process.
- Check that information is being issued in a timely manner for building control, planning, warranty provider and to Client following the agreed submission procedure.
- Assist in the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file.
- Manage design resources on projects to ensure staff are effectively utilized and available for new projects on agreed dates.
- Oversee the exit of design resource from projects at the earliest opportunity and continue to monitor projects and ensure design support is given as required.
Additional Duties:
- Develop standard details and Design Guide.
- Produce Technical Bulletins on updates to legislation/company guidance.
- Lead team staff reviews and development including identifying learning styles, set out key performance targets for the year ahead and training requirements.
- Assist Design Director in Recruitment.
- Take a department lead in areas such as BIM implementation/carbon zero development.
- Assist the preconstruction team to review the technical aspects of tenders and consultant appointments.
- Attending Client interviews/meetings.
