At Starling Homecare, we are building something special.
£26,000 to £30,000 per year, depending on experience. Full time, 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with a share of on-call. Permanent. Based at our St Albans office and out in the community across our visiting areas.
We are a family run, independently owned homecare provider based in St Albans, on a continued mission to build the leading heart‑first homecare service: the one families in Hertfordshire ask for by name when someone they love needs support at home.
We were founded by a husband and wife team who previously founded and led an award‑winning homecare service in Hertfordshire for over a decade. We know what great care looks like and how to build a team that delivers it. We started Starling Homecare to bring good old fashioned values back into homecare: knowing your clients, turning up when you said you would, doing the small things properly, and treating people the way you would want your own family treated. We hold high standards because people deserve the best.
We are CQC registered and provide visiting care across St Albans, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Hatfield, and live‑in care across Hertfordshire.
The role
As Senior Care Supervisor, you will be the link between our office and the care our clients receive at home. You will spend much of your week out in the community, supporting and mentoring our carers, carrying out spot checks and making sure every visit reflects the care plan and the standards we set ourselves. You will work closely with the Care Manager, our clients and their families to keep standards high, respond to feedback and put things right quickly when something needs attention.
What you will do
- Carry out regular spot checks and observations of care in clients' homes
- Mentor and support carers, particularly those new to care, through shadowing and on-the-job guidance
- Check that care plans are being followed and that care records are completed accurately
- Hold supervisions with carers and help identify training needs
- Visit clients and families to review how care is going and act on their feedback
- Raise concerns with the Care Manager promptly and follow our safeguarding procedures
- Step in to deliver care when the service needs it
- Take part in our shared on-call rota
- Help maintain compliance with CQC standards and our own procedures
What we ask of you
We should be honest about what this role asks. We are an early stage organisation, and at this stage everyone steps in when the service needs it. The people we support do not need us only between nine and five. This is a Monday to Friday role, but carers call in sick and clients' needs shift at short notice, including in the evenings and at weekends, and there will be times when you pick up care calls yourself. This role needs someone who is flexible, who takes their turn on our on-call rota, and who is prepared to roll their sleeves up while we grow. It is not for everyone, and we would rather say so now.
We ask it because the reason we are here is bigger than the business. We want to make a real and lasting difference to health and social care in our local area, so that people get the care they deserve, at home, from people who genuinely care about them.
Who we are looking for
In how you work, you are warm, observant and fair, you lead by example, and you hold high standards without losing sight of the people behind them.
