At Starling Homecare, we are building something special. We are a family run, independently owned homecare provider based in St Albans, on a continued mission to build the leading heart-first homecare service – the one families in Hertfordshire ask for by name when someone they love needs support at home. We were founded by a husband and wife team who previously founded and led an award-winning homecare service in Hertfordshire for over a decade. We know what great care looks like and how to build a team that delivers it. We started Starling Homecare to bring good old-fashioned values back into homecare – knowing your clients, turning up when you said you would, doing the small things properly, and treating people the way you would want your own family treated. We hold high standards because people deserve the best. We are CQC registered and provide visiting care across St Albans, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Hatfield, and live-in care across Hertfordshire.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced care professional to become our Registered Care Manager and lead our team through the next chapter of our growth. This is a role for someone who wants to build something, not just run it. As Registered Care Manager, you will:

  • Hold the CQC registration for the service and be accountable for its quality, safety and compliance.
  • Lead the day to day running of the service.
  • Recruit, develop and inspire our team of care professionals.
  • Carry out assessments in clients' homes and write and review care plans.
  • Make sure every client receives exactly what we promised them.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director on growth, recruitment and standards.
  • Help shape our systems, processes and service quality as new offices open.

What We Ask Of You

We should be honest about what this role asks. We are an early-stage organisation, and at this stage everyone steps in when the service needs it. The people we support do not need us only between nine and five, and the Registered Care Manager sets the example. This role needs someone who is flexible, who understands the commitment involved in making sure our clients are properly supported, and who is prepared to roll their sleeves up while we grow. It is not for everyone, and we would rather say so now. We ask it because the reason we are here is bigger than the business. We want to make a real and lasting difference to health and social care in our local area, so that people get the care they deserve, at home, from people who genuinely care about them.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from experienced Registered Managers, and from confident Deputy Managers, Senior Supervisors or Senior Coordinators who are ready to step up. Applicants will need to complete the CQC Registered Manager application process.

Essential:

  • Leadership experience in domiciliary or homecare, including care coordination, assessments, care planning, compliance, staff management and quality assurance.
  • A sound understanding of the CQC framework, safeguarding and person centred care.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or Level 3 or 4 with a commitment to complete Level 5.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Strong digital literacy.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a start-up or growing service.
  • Training or assessing qualifications.

In how you work, you are kind, professional and emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure and comfortable making decisions, and motivated, proactive and solution focused.

What We Offer:

  • £34,000 to £38,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Bonus potential.
  • A senior role with real scope and a direct line to the owners of the business.
  • The chance to shape a service rather than inherit one.
  • Real opportunities to progress as new offices and services open.
  • Tailored CPD, tools and modern systems.
  • Company pension.
  • On-site parking at our St Albans office.
  • A kind, respectful and professional working culture rooted in family values.

Employee Wellbeing Scheme

Once you have completed your first six months with us, you will be invited to join our employee wellbeing scheme, paid for in full by Starling Homecare with no contribution from you. Delivered through a single app, it includes:

  • 24/7 on-demand GP service with video, phone and text appointments.
  • Unlimited digital physiotherapy.
  • Online eye health screening.
  • Menopause health support.
  • Up to eight sessions of counselling per issue each year with accredited therapists.
  • Confidential one to one life coaching.
  • Digital gym with a weekly timetable of classes and workouts.

  • Weekly wellbeing webinars, e-learning and guides.
  • Benefits hub with over 1,500 savings and discounts, refreshed weekly.

  • Cashback on everyday spending.
  • Cinema tickets at up to 60% off.
