Description

Hello, we’re Starling.

We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way.

We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company.

We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone.

We employ more than 3,500 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

As a Digital Brand Designer, you'll help shape and elevate our brand identity across our primary digital touch points, with a core focus on our web experience.

We’re looking for someone who balances an exceptional eye for design and visual storytelling with a deep understanding of digital platforms.

You won’t just be building UI components; you’ll be turning ideas into thoughtful, crafted digital experiences that capture the imagination and elevate the Starling brand.

You'll bring a high level of creativity to everything from major web campaigns to the small, delightful interactions that make a website sing.

You’ll collaborate closely with writers, marketing teams, data analysts, and developers to bring your visions to life.

Please apply by close of business Friday 31st July.

Key Responsibilities

  • Web Experience and Digital Craft
  • Design high-quality, beautiful, and engaging web experiences that align with our wider goals and brand principles.
  • Translate creative briefs and marketing campaigns into strong, clear digital executions that feel fresh and premium.
  • Use user data, analytics, and customer feedback to drive the continuous, iterative improvement of our website.
  • Prepare and hand over meticulously crafted design files to our development team, collaborating closely with them to ensure your creative vision is technically achievable and perfectly executed in production.
  • Bring a high level of craft, consistency, and visual clarity to digital layouts, typography, imagery, and interactive elements.
  • Collaboration and Team Contribution
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with writers, marketers, engineers, and product designers to create cohesive digital journeys.
  • Present your design concepts clearly and confidently to peers and stakeholders, explaining the "why" behind your visual choices.
  • Contribute to creative reviews with ideas, web references, and positive critique, helping to foster a culture of curiosity and design excellence.
  • Brand Application and Visual Consistency
  • Apply our visual identity consistently across web, landing pages, and digital marketing channels.
  • Creative

Evolution: Identify opportunities to evolve or improve how our brand is expressed in digital and interactive formats (including experimenting with motion, micro-interactions, or new layout styles).

  • Trend Awareness: Stay aware of digital design trends, web technologies, and creative work across industries to keep our digital presence ahead of the curve.
  • Creative Thinking and Development
  • Stay aware of design trends and creative work across industries
  • Bring new ideas and fresh perspectives into the team
  • Contribute to the culture of the design studio with curiosity and generosity
  • Take initiative in developing your own skills and craft

Requirements

  • Proven design experience within a digital brand, marketing, or creative studio environment.
  • A portfolio that showcases original thinking, exceptional visual craft, and a strong eye for digital and web layout. (We want to see how you think, not just the final components!)
  • High proficiency in Figma (for web layouts, prototyping, and developer handovers) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience using data, user feedback, or A/B testing insights to inform design decisions.
  • Confidence in presenting your work, explaining your creative decisions, and collaborating with developers.
  • Some knowledge of HTML/CSS (you don't need to code, but understanding how the web is built is a massive plus)
  • Understanding of basic animation / motion skills for the web, e. g. Lottie or Rive.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Private Medical Insurance with Vitality Health including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
