Are you a creative Product Design Engineer who loves turning ideas into real, market-leading products? We're offering an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, British, family-run manufacturer with a reputation for innovation, quality and listening to customers. Since 1989, we've grown into a major force within the electrical accessories market, designing, developing, manufacturing and distributing products across the UK from our purpose-built 100,000 sq.ft. Head Office and Distribution Centre in the Midlands.
You’ll work closely with our Technical and Product Development teams, playing a key role in shaping the next generation of products for the UK wholesale market.
The Role
- Invent, design and develop innovative new products from concept through to production
- Apply creative problem-solving to deliver designs that meet performance, functionality and cost targets
- Take part in brainstorming, research and concept generation for new product ideas
- Champion great design, ensuring solutions are robust, practical and manufacturable
- Work with research teams to integrate new technologies into final designs
- Resolve engineering challenges through hands-on design ownership
- Follow structured development processes to deliver projects on time and to spec
- Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation for UK and Far East manufacturing partners
- Communicate effectively across technical, product and leadership teams
- Participate in design reviews with Product Development Managers, Technical Managers and Directors
About You
- You’ll ideally have:
- An Engineering or Design Degree, or HNC/HND equivalent
- Experience in Product or Mechanical Design
- A solid understanding of core engineering principles
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection/compression moulding and metal press work or Power Distribution
- Experience designing components for production and assembly
- A structured yet creative approach to problem-solving and design development
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly through concept sketches and 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred, training available)
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and collaborate
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- A proactive, self-starting attitude
Desirable (but not essential):
- Some electrical knowledge (training provided)
- Hands-on machining or model-making experience
- Willingness to travel to the Far East for project transfer or production support
