STARK is bringing its expertise in software-defined unmanned systems to the maritime domain. Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) extend naval reach at lower cost and reduced risk to personnel.
Your mission
Based in South Devon, the Junior USV Operator will facilitate marine missions involving both crewed and autonomous vessels. This multifaceted role encompasses vessel launch and recovery, direct USV operation, and essential marine support duties.
Responsibilities
- Carry out launch and recovery operations for vessels and marine equipment.
- Operate and monitor Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) in accordance with operational procedures and safety guidelines.
- Conduct refueling operations safely and efficiently for vessels and support craft.
- Perform general vessel husbandry, including cleaning, basic maintenance, and ensuring vessels are mission-ready.
- Operate VHF marine radios for communication with vessels, teams, and maritime authorities.
- Serve as a crew member on RHIBs (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats) during missions and support operations.
- Act as RHIB coxswain when qualified, ensuring safe navigation and handling of the vessel.
- Support mission setup, equipment checks, and post-mission breakdown activities.
- Maintain accurate operational logs and checklists.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures during marine operations.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of small vessel operations and seamanship.
- Experience working on or around small boats or RHIBs.
- Ability to operate VHF marine radio communications.
- Strong computer literacy.
- Understanding of marine safety procedures and risk awareness.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varying sea and weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Based in South Devon, this role requires a willingness to travel and work flexible hours as dictated by mission requirements.
- Eligible for Security Clearance or currently hold SC Clearance.
- Must hold a UK Passport and UK Driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 or higher.
- RYA VHF Radio Operator’s Certificate (SRC).
- Full UK driving Licence.
- RHIB coxswain experience.
- Experience operating or supporting Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) or other autonomous systems.
- SCTW 95 certificate.
