The SESL I&C Technical Meter Operative role provides day to day technical operational support for a field team of I&C Engineers working on the various contracts of work in the I&C field. Reporting into the local Field Team Manager, the Technical Meter Operative will be instrumental in supporting the engineers in their team with coaching to optimise the performance and ensure the safe delivery of all business objectives. They will also need to provide any contract specific technical support which may fall geographically inside - or out - of their area of work. Due to the geographical area of work, some nights away to undertake audits and coaching with engineers, as well as attend team and project meetings will be required as part of the role.
Areas of responsibility:
- Role model and maintain company values and standards
- Comply with personally, and assist management in complying with, Health & Safety laws and the aims of the Health & Safety policy
- Keep abreast of, and comply with, company policies, procedures and codes of practice to carry out tasks / resolve issues
- Participate in meetings and projects/working groups as required by the role and continuously look for ways to improve field delivery via coaching and upskill of metering engineers
- Communicate with contractors, customers, agents and other stakeholders for installation and site support
- Carry out unplanned/emergency work as required
- Investigate nonconformities found on audits and assist manager with any investigations
- Carry out meter accuracy testing on metering equipment, COP4, including the installation of check meters as appropriate
- Undertake complex meter exchanges including carrying out associated alterations to the customer's wiring within procedural tolerance
- Provide holiday & absence cover for other team members as required; picking up any work at risk to ensure job SLA’s are met
- Accompany OFGEM meter examiner as necessary
- Surveys meter positions, undertake risk assessments and report findings along with proposals to complete work
- Deliver technical information to the team and act as the first point of contact for technical field issue resolution
- Carry out various in-depth audits on meter engineers as part of yearly assessment programs for the team
- Ensure operatives vans are kept to a working standard, internally and externally
Good to have:
- Understanding of use of Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, Outlook E-mail
- Good organizational, communication and negotiation skills
- Demonstrable experience on LV/HVCT metering
- Experienced in problem solving and using technical knowledge to resolve complex site faults
- Excellent communication skills, can provide remote 1st line support via the telephone and explain complex technical issues to other members of the team and trainees
- Understanding of the industry codes of practices, policies and procedures, including safety requirements, which are relevant to Consumer Meter Operations and the ability to effectively communicate these to the staff
- Ability to coach and support the development of others
- Demonstrable 'can do' and 'find a way' attitude to challenge
