We're recruiting for an Interim Project Manager to join us for a 12-month fixed term contract within our Data and Analytics team.
The scope of the role is to lead, coordinate, and structure a portfolio of data and analytics initiatives, ensuring activities are clearly defined, governed, positioned for successful delivery and delivered, with expected benefits realised. The business is undertaking a series of data-related initiatives aimed at improving insight capability, rationalising tooling, and strengthening the overall data platform.
Key areas of focus include:
- Decommissioning of Phocas and transition to Azure and M365, including Power BI
- Review, assessment and implementation of Databricks to replace Synapse and Informatica pipelines and notebooks
- Carbon reporting tool for customer use
- Discovery and shaping of additional data initiatives (may include automated quotations, dynamic pricing, product enrichment)
Given the evolving nature of the scope, this role will focus on structuring, planning, and governing activity, as well as enabling and managing delivery.
Programme & Project Structuring
- Establish a clear view of all in-scope and emerging data initiatives
- Define scope boundaries, objectives, and success criteria for each activity
- Develop and propose delivery roadmaps and associated sequencing
Planning & Governance
- Create and maintain delivery plans, timelines, and RAID logs
- Align with existing governance structures and reporting methodologies
- Ensure alignment with IT and business priorities
Delivery Oversight
- Coordinate cross-functional teams across IT, Data, and Business stakeholders
- Track progress against milestones and manage risks and dependencies
- Manage initiatives to time and budget, realising benefits at agreed milestones
- Ensure initiatives are set up for successful execution where delivery extends beyond the contract
Discovery & Mobilisation
- Support early-stage discovery activities where scope is not yet defined
- Translate emerging requirements into structured plans and work packages
- Prepare initiatives for transition into live service
Stakeholder Engagement
- Facilitate alignment across senior stakeholders
- Provide clear, concise updates to the IT Exec
- Act as a central coordination point across multiple workstreams
Deliverables
- Portfolio view of data initiatives (including status and prioritisation)
- Structured delivery plans and timelines for key initiatives
- RAID logs and governance artefacts
- Regular executive-level status updates
- Defined and documented delivery approach for each initiative
- Successful delivery with measured and realised benefits
- Mobilisation packs for future delivery phases
Required Skills and Experience
- Project management of complex IT and data programmes, including in MS Azure environments
- In-depth experience of working on data projects
- Project planning tool(s) usage
- Risk and issue identification and management
- Previous work in ambiguous or evolving environments
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
- Capable of managing project activities themselves; and managing external partners to their delivery plans
