Position

The role

Stark Works’ Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for delivering on target MU sales in the M&E channel in the South and Midlands.

Our BDMs will have the freedom to build and nurture a sustainable and profitable client and project pipeline. As well as MU construction, our team will develop cross selling opportunities for the wider Stark Group product set (e.g., EV chargers, metering, data services).

It is essential the candidate has previous experience working closely with M&E businesses / consultants and has a good technical understanding of electric / multi-utility connection works for both residential and commercial developments. Technical background will be essential to understanding customer needs within the M&E sector. Ideally, we are looking for someone with a proven background in ICP/UIP/IDNO/IGT, utilities business development. The right candidate must be a hungry and structured business developer.

You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with people at all levels to ensure sales opportunities are maximised to deliver sustainable, profitable growth. It is essential that you are self-motivated, with the tenacity to maximise on leads and new business opportunities.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Ensure that monthly sales, margin and KPI targets are not only met but exceeded.
  • Generation and management of a self-discovered opportunity pipeline.
  • Work closely with the Estimating and Technical Solutions team, ensuring all proposals and tender packs are value engineered, submitted within agreed timeframes, and prepared to the highest possible standard.
  • Ensuring that all proposals are followed through to conversion with detailed feedback.
  • Provide detailed win and loss analysis – lessons learned.
  • Lead on M&E tendering activities and customer negotiation.
  • Effectively creating and maintaining lasting relationships with M&E customers, engaging with key individuals / decision makers to understand their opportunity/project requirements.
  • Working closely with other divisions within the Stark group to maximise our client reach and overall company success.
  • Understanding M&E customer drivers and ensuring that these are incorporated into the proposed solutions.
  • Provide accurate market and sales reports and feedback to support and drive the business development activity and strengthen the wider group offering.
  • Staying a step ahead of the industry, monitoring best practices to make recommendations and demonstrate knowledge and capability to external and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Keep up to date with advances in business area, new methods and ways of working.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Confident and accurate use of departmental computer systems/databases.

Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience working closely with or within M&E sector.
  • A proven background in ICP/UIP/IDNO/IGT/utilities infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Sales and Marketing techniques.
  • Sales and Tender management including customer negotiation and commercial risk mitigations.
  • Existing relationships with M&E consultants.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Business Development or Sales positions.
  • Experience within a Project Management-focused environment would be advantageous.

Industry & Functional Knowledge

Experience of delivering site works, civils in DNO, IDNO, Commercial & Industrial environments.
